My fascination with piercings started when i was about twelve, which was a little over a year after i had just had the standard lobes done with a gun. It was a positive way, in my opinion at least, to express individuality without doing something more permanent (i.e. a tattoo) at such a young age (although i ended up with my first tattoo at fourteen). I am now fifteen (though I promise you I don't look or act it), and have two tattoos, on my right hip and the inside of my left wrist, two holes in each lobe, my belly button, and both tragus. I also plan on getting a rook in my left ear and a daith in my right one within the next month or two *crosses fingers*.

They, of course, said no. I was brought up in private school, and any sort of body modification other than standard lobes are rather unacceptable there. But of course I wasn't letting that stop me. So I showed up about a week later with a safety pin through my belly button. And as I suspected, everybody was in love with it, and even though there was currently only a safety pin in it, my close friends (and the other people that followed us around), were insanely jealous. So long story short I was ratted out, and confronted by the principal and my parents, and thus suspended and had to remove my beloved "belly piercing."
So a few months later, on New Year's Day, my mother decided she'd take me to get it done professionally. That's the great thing about her. She has learned early on to pick her battles. She understood that a thing so small as a piercing, I would easily just rebel and do myself if she said no.
We were staying with family in San Antonio (we were living in Houston at the time), and decided to go to a place where my mother and my aunt and uncle (the people we were staying with) had had their tattoos and piercings done. I was so damn ecstatic I didn't CARE where we went!! I'd been there a few times before with friends and family, so I knew the artists and piercers there and was quite comfortable. My aunt had bought me my first barbell as a Christmas gift, and it was perfect seeing as how it was pink with a playboy bunny (seeing as how im a lover of both pink AND playboy). So my mom signed the paperwork, everything was ready, and Daniel, the piercer, headed me back to the piercing room towards the back of the studio.
Now of course I couldn't do it alone. Oh no. My mother, aunt, and two family friends were in there with me. Im assuming it was to see if I would pass out, freak out, or just scream. He sterilized everything and went through about a dozen gloves, and sat me in the chair, which he proceeded to lean back so that I was almost laying flat. He used a purple Sharpie to mark where he was going to place the needle, and handed me a piercing to see if I was happy with the placement. I told him it looked great, and he proceeded to clamp it. Everybody's eyes were on me, and I must say it was rather amusing, and I was trying my damnedest not to laugh at their serious faces for fear of a needle going somewhere I didn't want it to go!! He told me to take a deep breath in, and slowly exhale. I did as I was told (for a change lol), and as I exhaled, I felt the needle go through. Now I have a considerably high pain tolerance, but I promise you, it didn't hurt at all. I barely felt a thing. I mean, yes, there was a moment where it was a bit uncomfortable, but virtually no pain. He put the barbell in place, and screwed the ball on top, cleaned up the blood (there wasn't much), and I was done!! I thanked him, tipped him, and proceeded to head back to the main area of the tattoo shop, where my mom sat down to get ready for a tattoo. I was given cleaning and aftercare instructions, and a small bottle of Dial soap to use to clean the piercing everytime I showered (they recommend not to bathe but only shower for the first week or so). They also recommended a sort of antiseptic to clean it with called Hurt-Free Band-Aid Wash, which you can buy at drugstores and/or some grocery stores (I HIGHLY recommend this stuff... it really does help).
I've had it for about two-and-a-half years now, and it's been the greatest and cutest piercing. It's never once been infected or given me any trouble whatsoever. Just keep cleaning it a few times a day for the first month or two, or any time it begins to bother you or give you trouble. It's a fun piercing, and seeing as how it's GENERALLY hidden, you can get away with it fairly easily!! So if you have any questions at all, feel free to ask!! It's worth the effort. Thanks and happy piercings!!
