I began to pop the question of getting my belly button pierced after a discussion with my parents. I was telling them how I would like to get my cartilage pierced, but they kept on saying 'no' because they thought it was ugly and my second earlobe piercing had just recently completely healed. Then, my mom told me "I would sooner let you get your belly button pierced than to get your cartilage pierced."

My dad then gave here a crazy look and said "No!!!" I began to have ideas about it, and I knew that if I kept asking that I would eventually get it done if I'm about 16 or older. I was thirteen headed towards fourteen. I imagined what it would be like to have it pierced, and I loved the idea and decided for sure that I wanted to get it pierced. I began asking the question occasionally, but my mom said maybe when I was older and if my dad agreed. But he still said no. When I turned fourteen, I continued to ask, but still no luck.
I began being serious about it. It was in the beginning of 2005, and my mom was on the edge of agreeing. I forgot about it for a while because of my many-relationships with my boyfriends and girlfriends going crazy.
Then, on day, my grandpa and my step grandma came over to our house. We were talking about random things, and I just brought up that I wanted a motorcycle (I've been wanting one for a while now.) My style was to talk about it, then pop the question, but my mom saw it and said no. I asked why not, and she said I was way too young and it was too dangerous, and that the only way I would get one is if I'm 18 or older and buy it myself.
Since they said no to that, I brought up the piercing again. My mom looked at my dad, and said "Only if your father agrees, otherwise I would say yes." It was a BIG step up. I looked at my dad with sad eyes, and he said yes!!!! I couldn't stop thanking them and hugging and kissing them. I guess they wanted to seem nice in front of my 'grandparents,' and if that was the case I owe them too. But the point is THEY SAID YES!!!!!
They thought that it would take a while for me to get it done. In the meantime, we got into a fight on how I couldn't go to a place with my friends just because it was 'at night.' I got angry and told her she didn't let me do birthday parties, sleepovers or anything and now she didn't let me go with my friends for one night with adult supervision.
I got super angry at her, and when I cooled down I began to grow impatient and asked her when the piercing was going to be done. I had already found a place, after asking the nurse and her delaying answer, I found Tribal Ways on this site. My mom approved and called them. It was a Friday, and they said they were open Saturday at 1:30. I was sooooo excited! I wouldn't stop bragging to my friends!
When we got there, we got there at 1, and the place had a lot of people. We signed papers and verified our identity while we waited. A guy there gave us a little foldable notice about the aftercare and rules. We had to sit there for 45 minutes because two girls ran late. I was calm while I waited, and when I went inside Aaron told me to get on the chair.
I wanted to get it done so badly that I didn't care if it hurt or not. I wasn't nervous at all and I was totally ready. He washed his hands and made jokes all the while for my mom, who was excited yet nervous for me. He made me stand up and told me to tuck my shirt under my bra. He marked my belly button and wiped it with a solution on a cotton ball, then he told me to lie down on the dentist-like chair. He put gloves on and took out really clean instruments, and he asked me if I was nervous. I said yes, since this was a big decision, and I thought I would have to wait until I was 16 to do this.
He took the top skin of my belly button with the clamp, which put a bit of pressure on it and it pinched just a little. He had the needle ready and told me to take a deep breath, and then he put it in. It took 2-3 seconds for the needle to go through, and then he put in the ring. It was very quickly and it hurt a little less than getting your ears pierced (those of you who don't know what that feels like, it's a little more than a pinch, that's all.) I felt my body immediately react and it felt like the inside of my belly was swelling a bit.
After that he cleaned it with a cotton ball again. He asked me if I felt light-headed or anything, and I said not at all. He let me stand up and look in the mirror. I really liked it and I couldn't wait to show my friends. He sprayed the chair with disinfectant, and my mom was really impressed and my dad was like "What did I get myself into?" When we left I showed it off in the street, since my shirt was a mid-drift shirt I lifted it up a little more. It started to bleed a little after, but then it stopped.
Right now I clean it twice a day and it feels a lot better. It still bleeds after my second treatment, but I think that's normal. It's a little red, but it's becoming a lot stronger and I'm happy with it. It's just a little red, and there's no crust yet. Today it's Sunday and I can't wait to show it off to all of my friends at school. I highly recommend Tribal Ways because the people there are really nice and the place is really clean.
I might have a little trouble cleaning it before I go to school, but tomorrow I'm going to see if I can do it without waking up early and being late, but I think I have to wake up early though.
