Britney spears did it for me about for years ago. I am not a fan of hers, but I can't avoid her image which is splattered all over the media. She had her firm tan tummy accented with a piece of jewelery. Well my tummy is firm and tan, and a little bit of sparkle would indeed enhance the appearance of my tummy. So I did a little research. I read the BME naval experience stories, looked at pictures, and read different guidelines of how to take care of the piercing.I asked friends about their piercings, where they got them, aftercare, ect.I had a pretty knowledgeable idea about the whole experience.I was only fifteen at the time, living at home. My family is very conservative, so I had to ask for permission. Also I was underage, so I needed a guardian to sign for me. My sixteenth birthday was coming up soon, and i figured that I could make my mom and dad give in and say yes. I told them how I was getting older and mature, and I've always done extremely well in school. My goo d behavior and scholastic achievements deserved a little reward of rebellion. They couldn't deny me, afterall I had never been in a big trouble and I continued to take Honors classes in my high school. I was a good girl. I got the OK to do it for my birthday. Yay!

My mother talked with some of her coworkers at the beer distributer she worked at, and they suggested a little place called Unique Ink. We checked the place out and found out that they charged about 40 dollars. Fine enough. We told them we'd be back later on that week. As the days went by I got excited and nervous. My boring little belly button was about to get sexy.

I rounded up three of my closest friends and my mother, and we headed to the piercing parlor. I wore a loose fitting pink tank top. We filled out the necessary paperwork and sat done of the leather sofas while the artisans finished with their current clients. As we waited, my friends and I looked through the tattoo books and all of the pictures of the wall. After about ten minutes of waiting, my initial excitement started to wear off, and then nervousness overcame me. I felt my hands get slightly sweaty and my heart beat faster. A tall guy with about a million tattoos and piercings said he was ready for me. He led me into a tiny and extremely clean room. I sat in the black chair, which reminded me of a dentist's chair. I pulled up my tank top and showed him my belly button. He put a little dot of where he was going to pierce it. Feeling really nervous now, I just said "Ok whatever". I leaned back and stared at the walls. There was a poster that said "Tipping is not a City in China". Haha, how funny...yeah anyway I'm about to feel extreme pain in my thin stomach. He handed me a little teddy bear to hold and squeeze, but I also held my friend's hand for more support. He got out the clamp and needle. My toes curled under and I squeezed her hand hard. I refused to watch, so I looked at the ceiling then closed my eyes. He tells me, "now at the count of three..." and I tensed up. Of course he stabs the needle at two, but i expected that. But its over now, Yay! By the time I look down I see a little ring with a ball in my belly button. Wow its cute...then I feel a little dizzy. I can't get up out of the chair for fear of passing out. The piercer gave me a piece of chocolate to put some sugar in me. I let myself calm down for a few minutes before standing up. We pay and tip the piercer as he tells us to go out and buy some epsom salt to take care of it. Sitting down in the car hurts. I had to sit upright or slouch so far down that my back was parallel to the floor. In the days afterward I had to do salt soaks. I would ta ke about a tablespoon of the epsom salt and mix it with warm water in a dixie cup. Then I would hold out the cup at waist level and bend over until my belly was touching the rim of the cup.Still holding the cup to my belly, i would move into a sitting or lying position and just hold the cup there for about 5-10 minutes. After about two weeks with the piercing, I wished I would have got a barbell instead of a CBR. The ring stuck out of my shirts and was constantly bending to one side or the other. After 5 weeks I finally changed it to a cute aquamarine barbell. It immediately felt and looked better with the barbell.

Now, about 3 years later, I can't picture myself without it. I love the look of the long dangling barbells with charms. I've been working out more and the pierced belly looks so good with a defined stomach. I haven't had any problems with it. It hurt during the first five weeks, but never so bad that I would have wanted to take it out. I'm so glad I did it, and I would recommend this experience to anyone. The next step is a cute nose stud, but my employer doesn't allow them, so I'll have to wait for that one. But until then I've got my sexy little tummy and belly ring.
