I have the ever so popular navel done, but mine comes with a story! Like most do. But it wasn't the experience; it was the after experience that made it such a keeper, and a piercing to remember!
At A Glance Author Cait Contact sweetbee487@hotmail.com When Two years ago Artist Susie Studio Blue Moon Location Cumberland, Rhode Island I'm a cheerleader, and no i'm not the ditzy ones you see jumping around like idiots in movies... rather in your school. I just do cheerleading for fun, because I like it! Well my sister who is now nineteen, wanted to get her belly button pierced, my sister hates piercings, and she doesn't even have her ears done! I've wanted mine done for so long, but my mom always shot it down, because she wasn't all about piercing. But when my sister wanted to get it done I asked, and she approved!
On February twenty second, my mom called me downstairs, she asked me, are you ready to get a piercing? I was so excited! Not even nervous! So we get there, i'm still excited.
At the time I was 14, now i'm 16 and that was the only place really that pieced at a young age. So I get in there, I lay down and she cleaned my belly button, then she has me stand up so she can mark it, she marks it once, and says, no I don't like this. Then she cleans it again and remarks it looks at it, and is satisfied. She has me lay back down and she puts the clamp on, now this is the part where I get nervous.
I can feel the adrenaline rushing through me. She says take a deep breathe in, so I take it in, and breath out, as I'm breathing out. Now i'm not going to sit her and type it was a piece of cake cause... holy shit. It hurt like hell, but the thing was she could feel it too, she told me I had a hell of a lot of scar tissue and the reason was because the way my umbilical cord healed. Everyone complains about the clamp, that was a piece of cake, the needle wasn't. But remind you, I have no pain tolerance I def. wasn't prepared for this one! So she puts the ring in, and I sit up. She's talking to me; my mom was like are you ok? I was said yea, i'm just feeling weak, and as soon as I know it, everything becomes tunnel vision and white... hmm... yes yes... I passed out. My mom practically told the whole world.
After that little experience, everything seemed to be fine, it was healing fine except every now and then I would get an irritation bubble, and I would freak out, because, they are gross, and I had no idea what they were. But other than that my piercing was going well! About three months later, I went to cheerleading camp. Yeah, what a trip and a half that was.
We are there for the first day, now before we go to camp we had a meeting before and I asked my coach, can I tape this, i've only had for three months, I can not take it out, and she's like "yea! A lot of girls are, you also might want to change it to a barbell I heard that they are more comfortable..." So I change it and I go to camp, the first day i'm there, she makes me take it out, she's like take it out or you cant go up, and I wish, I so wish I said no, but I was going to do cheerleading I the fall, and if she was my coach, I was afraid of getting an attitude. You know how that is.
She told me five minutes and I can put it back in. Yeah ok get this, my top hole just my top closed up within Five minutes and five minutes turned into HALF AN HOUR! Oh my god, I was ready to flip. I got so upset, because she was ruining my piercing. So we go up the hill we are going to eat dinner. And a girl Mel, who's had hers for years, put mine back in, because I didn't know how. Well, it had external threading, so she's putting it back in and it's poking my unhealed piercing and she rips through the top of the closed hole.
Jef explained this as union paring when the walls of my belly button pair up like glued walls. Then when Mel put the ring back in she ripped the apart unevenly and caused it to bleed, then a bubble formed as insulation to help it heal. Well, what happened was she let me tape it the rest of the time, and the bubble formed, I went and saw jef the piercer who I trust with my life, popped the bubble when I went into the studio a week later... he told me to do the normal salt soaks, and clean it with tea tree oil. But dilute it..., I did that for a while and it worked, it went away... the bubble came back, i cleaned it with tea tree oil, it went away... then it came back, and he had me try Doctor Bronners baby soap. Unscented, but diluted. It worked, and it went away but it came back for the 4th or 5th time... but by this time... there was scar tissue on top of the bubble so it couldn't be popped.
I cleaned it with the soap. Because jef said instead of changing it, just keep using what I'm using we don't want to irritate it, or use anything stronger, a few months later, and the bubble had disappeared, and my piercing had healed. Now I have a minor scar, which seems to be disappearing, either that or I just don't notice it anymore =) that's my long drawn out story!
