I had originally wanted my nose pierced, but my dad absolutely refused to let me do that because according to him, it was going to "ruin my beautiful face." So I decided to bargain with him...If that was his only reason as to why I couldn't pierce my nose, then he should have absolutely no problem with me getting my belly button pierced. So to keep me from running off and piercing my nose without permission, he agreed to let me get my navel piercing. I was ecstatic.

My mom wasn't to thrilled with the idea because she didn't want me to go through the pain. So what she made me do was put a numbing cream on my belly button. What I had to do was dab this cream all around my belly button, put a bandage on it and wait an hour. An hour passed, my belly button was numb, and so we were on our way. My terrified mother decided to take me so that she could be there to make sure everything was clean and sterile. She looked worse than I did. On the way there, I was a nervous wreck, yet so excited at the same time. It was finally happening!! I was finally getting my belly button pierced!!

We walked into a place called Planet Silver. It was clean with bright colors on the wall and jewelry and tattoo designs all over the walls. As my mother was signing the permission slips I started to get really scared, see I don't handle pain very well, and I was about to put a needle through my belly button! I then told the girl at the desk about the cream I had used and she gave me an "Oh" That scared me, I was so excited and now I wasn't even going to get the chance to get it pierced?? But she said it was fine, just that the piercers don't prefer it because your skin gets a lot tougher and harder to work with. But it was okay, I was still going to do it. I picked out my barbell and waited for the piercer.

Within ten minutes I walked into the back room and got a look at the woman who was going to pierce my belly button. I don't recall her name but she was covered head to toe in tattoos, with everything pierced and rainbow colored dread locks. Oh God what had I gotten myself into?? She took out all the packages and showed me and my mom that everything was sterile. Then she put her finger in my belly button and felt around to make sure it was safe to pierce. She then put this brown stuff all over to clean it, and then marked it. I checked if it was okay in the mirror and it was. She then told me to lie on a bed that looked like one at a doctor's office.

I lied down but I was so tense that she told me to just relax all my muscles, it will hurt less that way. You would think that my mom would be standing beside me holding my hand. No, she was looking out the door refusing to look. She put the clamp on and asked me if I could feel it. I said no, I had no idea she was even touching me. She then told me that she was going to pierce it, I took a deep breath and she put it through. I felt a small pinch but it did not hurt at all. I checked the results and was completely thrilled. She told me not to touch it unless I was cleaning it, and only after I thoroughly washed my hands.

After the numbing cream started to wear off I started to feel the pain. It wasn't unbearable but i'm going to be honest, it hurt. For someone who has a low tolerance for pain, it will hurt. I sat down and sat up like I was pregnant because it was hard to crouch over. You never realize how many times your belly button gets touched in a day! I can't even tell you how many times I tugged and pulled at it when drying myself with a towel after a shower!! But I have absolutely no regrets, and I was so afraid I would. My belly button looks great and I would go through everything another ten times, that's how worth it it is. So for all of you who are considering getting it done, go for it! After all, what do you have to lose? If you don't like it, take it out and its done. Now all I have to do is convince my parents to let me get a tattoo and I'm all set!
