This is my story about my navel piercing. When I was 11 years old I really wanted to get my belly button pierced. So I asked my mom if I could get it done. She said yes. At the time we lived in a small town in Saskatchewan and there were no body piercing places that we knew of there so I decided to forget about it, and also because I didn't have enough money at the time either.

A few weeks later I was getting my hair done at the local hairdresser and we were talking about tattoos and piercings when I told her that I wanted my belly button pierced. She told me she could do pierce my belly button for $25.00 and said she was trained to do it. I believed her. So after she finished doing my hair she got the back room ready then called me back. I went back into the room and laid down on this chair thing then cleaned my belly button. She got one of those ear-piercing guns out and I don't even remember if she sterilized it. I was only 11 at the time so I didn't know you're supposed to get it done with a needle and not a gun. Then she had me pick out an earring not a hoop or barbell (another mistake). Then I she said, "Are you ready?" I said ok and felt a slight poke through my skin then she put the earring in. We paid then left. When I got home later that night it started hurting a lot so I took some pain killers and cleaned it with the stuff she gave me which was ear piercing cleanser. It burned like hell when I cleaned it.

About a month later it got extremely infected and was swelling a lot. The swelling was the size of a quarter. So I decided to remove it because I couldn't take the pain any longer. I called my mom into the room and asked her to help me. I laid down on the bed and she unscrewed the bottom and started taking it out it was pussing and everything it was so gross. It took about forty-five minutes to get the earring out because it hurt so much. The piercing was also crooked and not done well at all. It eventually healed up but I still have the scar.

I still wanted to get my belly button pierced so when I moved back to Calgary this past summer (3 years later) I decided to get it done again. I got a job at Calaway Park to make some good money. I started looking around Calgary to find the best place and my friends and lots of other people all recommended Bee-Cool.

So On Wednesday I went and cashed my paycheck with my mom and she drove me down to Bee-cool. I was really amazed at how clean and sterile everything was inside. When I entered the place everyone was really friendly and not scary at all. A girl named Deanna came up to me and introduced herself and asked what I wanted done. I told her and she showed me the rings and barbells and picked out a nice barbell with a blue ball on the end. She took it out and then she gave me some forms to fill out and sign. Then I paid and she went in a room at the back to get everything ready. I was really nervous and then she called me back. The room was really clean and sterile and there was dentist like chair in the corner. She had me stand up against the wall and cleaned my belly button and marked the spot with a pen, then told me to look in the mirror and tell me if it looks good. It looked perfectly center so I said its good. Then she got me to lay on the chair and then she clamped my bel ly button which barely hurt at all, I don't know how people say that the clamp is the worst part because its not. Then she said she was putting the needle in. That hurt more then the clamp but not that bad, she then put the barbell in and that hurt a little bit less then the needle. Then she said I was done so I got off the chair and looked in the mirror and I think it looks awesome and so do all my friends.

The next morning I was cleaning it in the shower and when I was pushing it up and down like your supposed to do it hurt like hell and I started getting really lightheaded and faint. Then I guess I just passed out. My mom was in the bathroom at the time brushing her teeth. She said that I slid against the wall hit my head and my left shoulder and arm on the shelves on the wall then I hit my head on the counter and collapsed to the floor. She screamed for my sister to call 911 and I was out cold for about four and a half minutes. When I came out of it I remember still being in a daze and my sister talking to the responders on the phone. I put my pajamas on and I remember like being really out of it then the paramedics were all there and the police and the firemen because I guess when you call 911 they dispatch everyone. So the police and firemen left and the paramedics took me to the hospital in the ambulance. The doctor told me I bruised my shoulder and arm and the bones in the left side of my neck but nothing to serious. My mom is still scared and wont let me clean my belly button standing up anymore I either have to lie down or sit up on the bed while cleaning it. I'm a lot better now but my shoulder and neck are still stiff and I have a killer headache but still love the piercing.
