My 51 year old wife just had her navel done a week ago at the Needleworks in Saratoga. We were in Vegas 2 years ago and many of the girls at the MGM pool had there's done. I think that's where she first got the idea because we all admired the ladies who had them done.

These weren't the 14/15 year old girls but mid twenties to mid thirtish and needless to say all wearing very sexy bathing suits. Those of you that have been to Vegas know the sights at the Casino pools. The women with the navels pierced just had that something special about them. Many wore dangling pieces and wow, got to like that.

This summer a college girl worked in her office who had her navel done and had mentioned the Needleworks to her. While she didn't talk at lenght about it, I kind of got the idea she was getting interested.

We were in Albany at the mall and kidding around after seeing several girls walking about with navel rings quite evident. I said that if she wanted one she should go-for-it and not worry about being "too old". She is in good shape and works out at the gym regularly, but she doesn't have a 18 year old's stomach any longer. Who cares - she has many other things that I consider more important.

So with little fan fan she said "let's go to Saratoga". I drove and without any jabber about why she should or shouldn't do it we got to Saratoga. Stopping at a convience store we got directions to Needleworks - which sets back in a strip mall and not easily seen from the main street. Funny, I asked a girl with a shoulder tattoo and she didn't know, another girl who you would not expect to know pointed out the directions.

Entering the store, the area was clean and I felt comfortable with the initial impressions -- I was prepared to "pull the plug" if I wasn't comfortable with the place. There was a young guy getting a tattoo in the back and behind the counter was a tall guy (Paul - the piercer) who asked if we needed help. We said we had some questions about getting her navel pierced and he took over.

He immediately said he needed to see her navel to determine if it was piercable -- it was. Said the price was $40 (with standard ring) and $60 with gold. She wanted gold. Asked about the curved bar bell versus the ring and he was adament that the ring was the way to go until it healed. The ring could be washed more easily. So we went with that. Our concern with the ring was that it would be push to the side by her pants, and that the curved bar bell would not. But he wanted her to have the ring until it healed.

She signed a form and we went into a small room behind the counter. Another young guy who worked there went in with us. Paul talked to her nicely and even came from the same town nearby. Obviously, he was a lot younger than us. He had these wooden plugs in his ear lobes -- big wooden plugs - which had my wife laughing. He told her to stand, expose only her navel and he marked a spot on her belly above the navel with what looked like a regular ball point pen. Then another mark in her navel. Looked it over and redid the lowere one. The young guy was his pen assistant and handed to pen to him as needed.

He had her look in the mirror while standing and she nodded her approval. Then she sat back in the dentist chair. He open a package containg the needle and made sure that I saw the package. He applied acholol and cleaned her navel. Then he applied a clamp on her. The clamp had a rubber band holding it tight. He had some concern over the mark placement and reposition the clamp.

Paul told her to concentrate on a place on the ceiling, she said just do it. And he did. The needle was a 14 gauge and looked big to me. The process was very fast but it hurt for a split second. I know because her knee jerked up ward. Once the needle had puncured both sides she was fine. He put on the gold ring to the needle end and pulled the needle through all the way. Then adjusted the ring and that was it. We took a minute before she stood up and everything was OK. Back to the counter - he gave her a care sheet and a bottle of provon. We then went to the Parting Glass pub and had a drink, (I think we had more than one).

A week later and all is going well. She cleans it in the morning and at night. And Paul advised that we use Saline solution ( contact lens stuff) as a substitute for sea salt. She soaks it at night with the saline solution for a min of 15 minutes.

No discharge yet, a little red but no problems.

The most important part is that she really likes it. I think she feels a little more sexy with it and I'm looking at the online jewelry sites. Her birthday is in November and guess what I'll be buying -- something Gold and pretty, maybe even dangling.

She doesn't wear a bikini any more but she does have a pretty nice two piece bathing suit. So who knows -- watch out Vegas we'll be back.

To her, I have to say "WHAT A GIRL" she was great and at 50 and still willing to be "out there" looking good -- you have to love her for it and I do.

So if, any women out there who isn't in the teens/twenties or thirties who still thinks they have something and is thinking about getting a navel done -- go ofr it.
