Hi there. Before I start I'd just like to say that I am totally terrified of needles. I mean it. Your reading a story written by a girl who used to cry and beg her way out of taking blood tests at the doctors office! Anyways, for quite some time I've been wanting a piercing. Not just any piercing,a navel piercing.Every time I saw a girl with her belly pierced I was so jealous and wanted to kick her!It was crazy!

Finally I built up the courage to confide in my mom.So when we were just relaxing I brought up the subject about navel piercings. Before I even finished the answer was "NO!". But I wasn't going give up that easily. I came across BME (you guys rock!) and I found a lot of info about belly piercings and aftercare and so on. So I decided to gather all the info I could find and show my mom. Luckily my mom is a reasonable woman and she agreed to take me to get it done as long as I payed for it and took proper care of it. I found a nice studio in Toronto called Passage and my mom phoned in to ask a few questions because she was still a little unsure about this. When the subject of age came up she said I had to be 14 to get it done-damn! And my birthday wasn't until december and I knew I couldn't wait that long because I'd go insane! So we phoned a few other studios and we got the same answer. It seemed like all hope was lost. However, when I was at Square 1 a week ago with a frien d I saw a salon called Jason Michael's and they did body piercing there. Every inch of hope I had was lied in the hands of this little salon. So I went up to the counter and asked the guy the age limit for piercings with a parent and he said there is no age limit unless you have a parent or you're 16 with ID. This was my big chance!

I went home that night and told my mom the news. She was happy but still a little unsure because of my dad (he has no clue about this!). He's a major psycho when it comes to piercings. He went crazy when I got my second hole pierced when I was 11 so you can imagine what he would do if he found out about this!

So I gave the place a call and they said the guy was on vacation and wouldn't be back until Tuesday (today).I spent the entire week preparing for this and finally the day came. I was so nervous about the needle (even though people says it doesn't hurt) that I got out a bag of ice and put it over my belly a hour and a half before. I kept it on the way there just to make sure it was totally numb.

So we get to the salon and there he is. I managed to mumble the words "navel piercing" to him and I'm surprised he understood me. He gave this form and made me fill it out and my mom had to sign the bottom of it. He didn't even ask for my mom's ID!

I managed to convince my mom to come in with me because I was shaking like a leaf. He lead us into a small room at the back of the salon. It was nice and clean. I picked out a cute pink playboy barbell and he put it in this sterilizer which looked like a small microwave oven along with the other equipment. He had me lie down and relax *hehe imagine that*. He put some kind of liquid on a cotton ball and wiped the area clean. He then put a purple dot and got out the clamps. The clamps looked similiar to pliars. People say it doesn't hurt, but it kinda did.It was a little pinch at first. At this point my mom has her hands over my face (I guess she was attempting to suffocate me!). And that's when he put the needle through. Now I will not lie to whoever is reading this. It hurt. Kinda like when you stub your toe. I felt the needle go right through! I whimpered like a little baby. And I felt more pressure and I knew the jewerly was in place. By the time I wrestled my mom's hands of f my face I saw him screwing on the top ball with the pliars.

I then got up and looked in the mirror and I couldn't believe what I saw. I was so proud of myself I let out a scream of joy and probably choked my piercer to death because I was hugging him so tight. He gave me a tissue because there was a little blood and had me sit down while my mom went to get the aftercare stuff.

All in all it was a wonderful experience and hopefully I'll build up the courage to get my tongue pierced later on! I know you may hear this a lot in other stories but if someone like me can do this, anyone can. It's not all that bad and it is well worth it! Some people say salons aren't that good to go to but I had no trouble at all. If you want this done go for it! Don't hold back but 2 seconds of pain is worth it in the end.

If you have any questions or want any tips on how to convince your parents *hehe* or concerns feel free to e-mail me and I will write back as soon as possible.

sincerely,
Alicia
p.s:
Things I would recommend after you get this done.
-get a few bags of sea salt and disinfectant soap.
-waterproof bandages (they say you can't go swimming for 2 weeks but you can put a bandage on your belly and clean it afterwards)
-you should add 1 1/2 cup of sea salt to your bath and soak for about 5-10 minutes once a day. Also have a little container full of sea salt water and dip a cotton ball and gently dab the area twice a day for a good 8 weeks.
-avoid touching it with dirty hands or have other people touch it.
-never tend to the piercing without washing your hands thoroughly.
if you need any more help feel free to e-mail me.
Good luck!
