I decided last summer that I wanted my navel pierced. While vacationing in Cancun, I noticed everyone had it done and I was very drawn to the idea. One Friday, two weeks ago, while sitting at work, it hit me and I knew I had to get it done. I left work with a mission in mind. I had a light dinner and started on my way. I had decided that telling my husband was out of the question. He is rather old fashioned and I was sure would not be thrilled. It was spitting snow and was dark and we had several inches of snow from the storm a few days earlier. To make the situation worse, I am night blind, but I wanted this piercing bad enough to risk it. I had never been to this shop before so I was driving in an area of town that was unfamiliar to me, I thought I was in the turn lane when in fact I was headed straight into a cement divider. I hit the divider, skidding and bouncing several yards with black smoke and noise coming from my car rendering it helpless. Well, I didn't look like I was going to make it to the shop that night. I ended up having to call my husband to pick me up and have my new car towed. He was VERY curious as to why I was driving at night in an area of town that I am totally unfamiliar with and I was VERY evasive in my answer. After much probing...I confessed and he reacted exactly like I thought he would, but this did not stop me. The next day after making arrangements to have my car fixed and deciding on a rental car, my very old fashioned husband drove me to have my belly button pierced. I could tell he was totally uncomfortable and I was terrified. I had researched this idea all day on the Internet and actually found the stories on this site very helpful. The place I decided on was FANTASTIC! It was very clean and very professional and the people were very helpful and sensitive to the fact that I so scared. I went in armed with questions and they had all the answers that I was looking for. I am a BIG baby when it comes to needles and things and my dentist even medicates me to work on my teeth!!! All I could think of was how bad this was going to hurt and I was so nervous. When I get nervous, I tend to hyperventilate and then I faint. Just talking to the guy about the after care of my belly made me light headed and I had to sit down for a few minutes. I had the feeling that the room was spinning and my stomach was in my throat. While I was sitting there, trying to breathe and not vomit, three young guys waiting for their turn started talking to me. They told me that I would look great and it was only the fear of the unknown that was bothering me. My husband, the old fashioned guy, was only standing against the wall glaring at me in a totally NOT very understanding way! The only sympathy I was going to get was from these guys! I don't know who you guys are, but thanks! You calmed me down and I did it!!!

It was nothing like I expected and all my fears about the pain were totally silly. It was over before I realized it had begun. I immediately went out and started flashing my belly to everyone that would look at it and even recruited a few new customers for this shop! I have a surgical stainless steel ring in my belly with a black ball. I LOVE IT! I have not had any problems at all and my healing is going great.

Please if I can answer any questions for you, email me! I have always lived my life doing what was expected of me and trying to walk the straight and narrow, but I have also had my share of being a bit of a free spirit too. I told my husband that after all this time of doing what is expected that I had a wild child inside me just waiting to be born. He said he hopes this is as wild as the child was going to get. I think it looks great and it makes me feel good about myself and if the truth be known, the "old guy" likes it too! I really believe that you are as young as you feel. I am a 43-year-old mother of a 13-year-old girl. She thinks I am the coolest mom on earth and she is dying to have her belly pierced and I will most likely let her do it for her Birthday. If you have the desire and you are afraid, don't let a little thing like fear or your age stand in your way...JUST DO IT!!!!!
