On the 21st December 2007 I got my first facial piercing. Before this, I had only ever had my ear lobes pierced. I've been wanting my lip pierced for about 4 years now and I had pestered my parents for years, but they finally agreed to let me get the piercing.

First, I went straight there after school with my parents and a friend. I told the piecer what I wanted done and she took me through the whole procedure. Of course we had to sign a consent form and go through the procedure of checking my general health and asking about any allergies etc. After all of this, she asked me what piece of jewelry I wanted, a ring or a labret stud. I chose the stud because I wouldn't fiddle with it as much!

Then, she gave me the choice of two sizes; 16ga and 14ga. I chose 14ga as it looked nicer. She also explained to me that the stud was going to be long and that id get really annoyed with it, but it needed to be long to account for the swelling (which i found was useful when i woke up this morning!)

After all of this she took me into the next room were she prepped me before actually going in for the piercing. She explained the whole process of cleaning and what I should do and what was going to happen afterwards.(Like the swelling and that I could be moody!) I was also given an aftercare leaflet with all the details of the studio and all the information I needed to clean the piercing. She also told me how to make the salt solution.

So after all of this, I went into the actual piercing room were Ashley was waiting and I sat down. My friend had come in with me for moral support and to also laugh at me because I'd been there while she got her frenulum pierced. So I sat down and he cleaned the area and then marked off where he thought I would like it (apparently this was meant to be the longest and most annoying part), but he got it spot on the first time! So then he made me check it again in the mirror just to be certain.

He then put the numbing gel on the outside and inside of my lip, but I accidentally licked it cause it tasted all nice and minty, but my tongue then went numb as well which was a bit annoying.

Then he got the clamps and held my lip in place. I got told to relax because as it was a muscular piercing, if I was relaxed it would be less painful and a lot easier to pierce. As the needle was going through I did feel a bit of pressure and I bit of a prick, but it was over a lot quicker than i thought it would be. So then he cut the end off the plastic sleeve and put the stud I wanted in. Then it was finished! I was in and out within 5 minutes of sitting down in the actual piercing room!.

So as I went out, the woman I had been talking to before gave me some ice and told me to eat a lot of it to make sure that the swelling didn't become huge.

However, so far I've had it in for a day and it hasn't hurt once and its only swelled slightly. The biggest problem so far has been that I thought the ball wasn't screwed on completely ad I lost it! So this morning I went straight back and bought a new ball for the end and I've vowed not to touch it again until the two months are up!

So if your nervous about getting a lip piercing or unsure, I'd say definitely go for it because you can always change your mind in there or if you want to go through with it and are scare (like I was) they make you feel comfortable.

But, I'd definitely say take a friend, because that makes you even more relaxed because you're with someone your familiar with! Here it is about 2 hours old:

As you can see its not red or swollen so I think they did a pretty good job! The only weird this is trying to get used to the stud while eating because of its length and generally it just being there! However, I think I'll be used to it in a few days. I also have to go back in two weeks for a check up were they can change the length for me or fit a retainer(which i probably will have considering I have school). If you live in Liverpool definitely get pierced in bodyworks!
