It all started a year ago, at a party with a lot of my friends. Everyone was sitting around having a good time, drinking, smoking and just chatting. After everyone had a bit too much to drink as they always seem to do, I started kissing a girl who is now a good friend of mine. She had two lip piercings on her bottom lip on either side, called snakebites. I loved the way these felt when I kissed her, but at the time it didn't cross my mind that I should get a piercing. Over the next about 10 months I grew more in love with the look and feel of lip piercings and I ended up envying everyone I saw who had one.

I did hours and hours of research, watched video after video on youtube and asked every person I saw with it done what is was like. I ran it past my mother, who just happens to hate peircings and all forms of body modification. She forbid me from getting anything done and I informed her that once I'm 16 I can get it done without her permission. So yeah she didn't talk to me for a while after that but she got over it.
On the 11th of January I told everyone I know that I was getting my lip pierced, just so I wouldn't chicken out, because this was my first piercing and even with all the research I'd done I still didn't really know what to expect pain wise. I got 2 friends of mine to come along with me to hold my hand. One of those friends was actually the girl I kissed who got me so into the piercing, the other was a piercing junkie who has since inspired me to get my neck pierced. On the 12th of January I woke up at 9.00 and still managed to miss my bus into the city, so my mum drove me in and I was silent the whole time, because I didn't have the guts to tell her what I was getting up to that day.
For a while we wandered around Geelong, got slurpees and had something to eat. Then by the time I said I'm going to get my lip pierced now, I had a crowd of about 11 people saying they were going to come in and watch. In the end I managed to convince them not to come in. So I went to Body Pleasure on Little Malop street and started talking to my friend who works there, Ash. She reminded me of a flight attendant as she gave the memorized speech of aftercare and all that stuff. But she did well. There were a few people ahead of me when I got there so I ended up waiting for a couple of hours. I was so nervous because my "friends" kept telling me about the excruciating pain I was about to endure, so I went outside and had a cigarette to calm me down.
By the time I came back inside it was my time to go into the back room. The room looked like a dentist, with one of those long chairs. I took a seat and the guy made me wash my mouth out with this foul tasting listerine. It tasted like feet. Then he rubbed the outside with something I assume was alcohol. Jeff brought over my autoclaved needle and jewelry and his assistant marked the out side of my lip. I looked at it in the mirror and was unsure, I asked the 2 girls I brought with me and they gave the spot its approval. If it looked good to them, it looked good to me. Jeff clamped the spot and then somebody said "doesn't the clamp hurt more than the piercing?" I told them it doesn't hurt at all at the moment, so Jeff offered to make it hurt. Then with out warning he shoved the needle through. I didn't even realise he had done it. Seriously, on a scale of 1 to 10 the pain was about 1.5. My first words with a pierced lip were "are you serious?". He put the jewelry in and screwed the ball onto the end of the bar. I had decided to go with a labret stud so they could pierce it closer to my lip and then later on I can put in a small ring.
And that was it, 60 dollars and a nearly painless procedure later I finally had the piercing I had wanted for so long. I kept it clean, I was really anxious about it getting infected. But now I've neglected it just a bit and a bit of a lump has formed around it. But I'm not really worried.
If you like this piercing and you want it, go for it, definitely. I'm going to go get more, another on my neck, another on the other side of my lip and maybe another surface piercing. But I definitely recommend this one.
