So, I had always wanted some sort of piercing. I had my earlobes pierced as tradition, I got them done when I was a kid. But I wanted more! I was debating between getting my eyebrows pierced, a labret, or a septum ring. My only requirement was that I got something that was symmetrical, as I'm pretty OCD when it comes to symmetry. My friends helped me decide on a labret.

They're old-fashioned, and think piercings are ugly. Not to mention, when my older sister got her bellybutton pierced she got a blood infection. She got it done again, and got another blood infection. Piercings weren't really working out for my family. My brother managed to get away with getting his ears pierced 2 or 3 times on each ear, going up his lobes. So.. how was I going to get this done?
I decided on a home job. All I need is a ring to put in it, and a needle. I went to the mall and bought a pack of 14g CBRs, the same size my buddy uses for his lip ring. I figured that would work. My friend at school had a piercing needle left over from when she ordered a pack offline to do her own labret. She gave it to me cause she didn't need it, I still thank her for that.
Now all I need is someone to do it. I couldn't do it myself cause it would be pretty awkward and I wouldn't be able to see what I was doing. One of my friends that I party with sometimes, Jeremy, agreed to do it if I go hang out with them. He did his own labret and another friend's eyebrows, so I figured he was suitable for the job.
I told my mom I was going to go hang out with my friends, and went over to my friend Ben's house. We always chill at her place. Jeremy came over and was like, "Well let's do this shit!" and we went into Ben's bedroom. Jeremy washed his hands, used a little sanitary wipe on my lip, and made me draw a dot where I wanted it. He went over the steps with me, so I wouldn't be all confused and freak out. Another friend held my hand [this was my first piercing, after all.] while everyone else that was over was watching.
Jeremy said, "Now since you're a panicky person, I'm not gonna tell you when /stab/ I'm gonna do this". I remember seeing the needle come up through my lip, and feeling each layer of skin "pop". It was a terrible mixture of kick-ass awesome and terrifying.
I don't know WHAT he did, but he fucked up somehow. He couldn't get the labret stud through for some reason, and ended up just about having to pierce me twice. At this point I was bleeding all over his hands and myself, luckily I wasn't aware of it. When he turned his back to get the ball for the stud I saw the blood on his hands though and pretty much flipped out. I started shaking and they made me sit down on the floor, bloody lip with a labret stud stickin' out of my face, the needle was somewhere on the floor with me I'm sure. Jeremy screwed the ball in and kept apologizing for something. I asked what was up, turns out he did it backwards. The ball was on the inside of my mouth and the back was outside haha. He offered to fix it but I was like "Fuck no!", I was still flippin' out about the bleeding part [me and blood aren't really good friends.].
He cleaned up my face a bit and helped me up, and it looked pretty good! I walked around the house with a classic ":')" face and everybody who wasn't watching was like "looks nice!", except one of my good friends, Binny, who had to be the one to make me all nervous, and tell me that it looked crooked. Jeremy told me to ignore her, so I did. He was just about the only one who was able to get me to stop flipping out. The needle-bearer has the power!
I hid it from my parents with a band-aid. After about a week, my mom busted me though. She wasn't too upset, but my dad was. He threatened to kick me out and all this mess. I pretty much told him to get over it, he can't control what I do to my body just because he thinks it's "ugly"... and he had to deal with it I guess.
Once it finally healed, it turns out Binny was right. It's a little crooked. Not noticeable to anyone who doesn't closely inspect my face, and not severe enough to make me want to take it out and do it again cause of my OCD, but enough so that when I grin big enough, the stud points at like an 80 degree angle instead of 90. XD
Jeremy is proud of his handiwork, and I am too. [ :
Since then, I've gotten two new ear piercings, and I plan to get a nose ring and an inverse bellybutton.
I don't suggest to anyone that they do their own piercings, especially behind their parents back like I did.
Or at least if you're going to, be sort-of safe about it and get a real piercing needle, don't use a safety pin or a nail or something silly like that. And make sure you measure twice, pierce once! So you don't wind up with a crooked labret like mine.
