I finally did it. I got my lip pierced. I don't understand why I was so nervous about the whole thing to begin with. I had a Monroe before, so I don't know why I was so nervous about getting my lip done. I guess the thing that I was most worried about was whether or not the people at work would fire me or not. I work with a bunch of fuddy-duddy old men who wear the same 5 polo's every week, and even the slightest hint of change they freak out about. (You should see them if someone gets a haircut!) So imagine me asking if a piercing is ok. Most of my piercing's are hidden so they don't even know I have most of them. I was pleasantly surprised when my boss told me that she thought it was a cool idea....and that she couldn't wait to see it on Monday. (I got it done on Friday)

I didn't know whether or not to go with a barbell stud or a ring. I debated the whole ride there. When I got to the shop, which is the only shop I will get any piercing, all the guys said hello and my piercer, Cotton, asked what I was up to today. I told him that I was finally going to get my lip pierced and he was happy to hear it. I asked him a couple of questions about the jewelry and which one would be more difficult to clean or which would heal faster. He recommended a stud (either one heals at about the same pace he said) because that way it wouldn't be that drastic looking and it's not as noticeable for an office setting in case my boss freaked out and changed her mind. He took my drivers license and got the paperwork ready while I browsed some tattoo books. I had to sign a disclaimer that basically said if for some reason I don't take care of my piercing and lose my lip I cant sure Intricate for this.
Cotton called me into the room so he could take a look at my lip and to help me decide what side to put it on. I'm very indecisive so I always need an outsider opinion on things. Everything that he used was brand new right out of the package. That is why I only come here for any kind of piercing or tattoo because I have never once gotten an infection, had a bad piercing, or any other kind of problem. He let me pick out my jewelry and then he went to go wash his hands. Then he met me back in the room and he put on some gloves and we decided that we would go with the left side. I thought it would look better and he agreed. He marked a spot and it was perfect, no rearranging this dot! He clamped my lip, carefully checked it about three times before getting the cork and needle out to make sure it was straight. "You have to relax", he said. I knew I was tense because my neck was starting to hurt! Then he told me, "Take a deep breath" he brought the needle up "and breathe out" and pushed it through. Just like that it was done. I did squeak a little because I was expecting it to hurt more...but it didn't! My eyes watered up like they did when I got my Monroe done and he pulled the jewelry through. It was perfect!
He took off his gloves and told me all about the aftercare and what I should and shouldn't do. He told me if I had to drink to stay away from beer because of the yeast. (Which I was glad he told me because the effects of this is disgusting) I thanked him over and over again for doing such a sweet job, paid him, and made a run to Meijer's to get some Biotene and some Dial foaming hand wash (This works the best and it way easier than the liquid stuff) It has been about two weeks and my piercing is healing a lot faster than my Monroe ever did! I love it so much and I wish I would have gotten it done sooner!
My boss surprisingly likes it too. She asks me almost every other day if it still hurts. I just laugh and tell her no. I can't wait until I can change it and buy some new jewelry!! Until my next visit to the shop...I bid you good piercing!
