I wanted to get my cheeks pierced because I always wanted to have dimples and thought they looked awesome on this girl I had seen in Los Angelis, So I did some research and asked around about the best shop (meaning the cleanest because I had some mishaps when I was younger with dirty places and infected piercing). I had gotten a lot of recommendations to go to this guy clay at Infinite Tattoo and piercing in Philadelphia. I found out that supposedly it took about six months to heal and cleaning of it has to be constant because they get infected so easily.

Now here's the real story... to start my piercer clay was awesome, he makes everyone that goes to him feel real comfortable. Though for a minute he wasn't going to do them considering I had huge healing gashes on my arm but I assured him they were fine and healing properly

It took about 30 minutes to line them up, which was really awkward because I hate people staring at my face so intently, you can really see people's flaws and I could not stop laughing which probably made it a bit more difficult.

Clay pierced them a bit oddly. He pierced them with a 16g going outside in and then with a 12g inside out. I was told that the cheeks are one of the worse pains and one of the longest to heal. My first cheek did not hurt at all, well I lied I felt it but it wasn't the worst, then the second one hurt pretty bad. I was told that since my lips and crooked they sat in different place and it might have hit something that the other one did not. The left side of the inside of my mouth sat right on my teeth and the right sat in between my teeth which sucked because I would bite the shit out it all the time, especially when I was eating or yawning.

Healing time was not 6 months like I was told both by the internerd and the shop. It actually took about year and a month or so, and still to this day they get a little funky.

What I did at the six month point, I bought another set of jewelry to rotate because they would get really really smelly like rotting goat cheese or decaying fetuses and even mouth wash would not help this horrible smelly.. So I would rotate them about once every month and soak my other jewelry in alcohol for a couple hours and put them in a baggy to not get them all germafied. I'm not sure if this helped or prolonged the healing process but it did help it from leaking that yellow shit that comes out of most piercing. So yeah never mind I guess it helped.

People always ask me If I had dimples before I got them pierced and if it made it easier to line up.. but no I did not have dimples and when I do decide to take them out I will have them do to the scars.

The pros I can think of about getting these things are they look good after you get to take those long ass barbells out. They are very soothing when I'm nervous I play with them, and I can't really think about any other reason. Though don't get me wrong I really do love them, I grew to love them like they were my bad-ass little kids

The cons they get caught on everything, they are a bitch to take of in the begging and if you sleep on them wrong they are going to be super red and hurt for about a day or two. You bite them while you eat and that hurts. Sometimes they can feel really awkward and you never really forgot they are there like most piercing. They would fall out randomly and they close really fast. You can't drink much in the healing process because apparently it slows the process down, even though I still drank every night I guess that could be another reason it took them so long to heal, but I can not help that I am a lush. I was at a party that was about an hour away from my apartment and my ball fell out while I was there and I could not find it, so I had to hold it in with my tongue and go back home to get a ball, so If you thinking about getting this done I would always carry extra balls or back pieces.

All in all I think the money and the pain and the pain in my ass healing process was well worth it. They are a good conversation pieces and I always get complement though I do hate when people try to took them or my tattoos but I guess that anyone on this site has to deal with.
