Cheek piercings
I had waited a long time to get my cheeks pierced. I had called many piercers who all turned me down for reasons ranging from "we don't pierce outside the smile line" because of the high risk of rejection to piercers who were just too incompetent to find jewelry for my chubby cheeks. After a long day of sitting around (with my boyfriend, who was making the calls for me) getting rejected by piercings we finally found a place that would do it. A place I had seen before but never considered because of the name, Sudden Urge Tattoo.
We went up and met Abe right away. He talked to me about the piercings and felt around inside my mouth and told me to come back tomorrow. So my boyfriend, Kevin, and I went back to my house and waited around.
Day of the piercing.
We went up there around five thirty. Abe was outside smoking a cigarette. He took me inside and gave me some paper work to fill out, ya know the usual "are you pregnant", "have you eaten". Then he called me back to the piercing room. He felt around inside my cheeks some more and then cut the tygon he would be using as jewelry. Next was the hardest part, marking where the piercings would be. It took six of us and what seemed like forever. Finally we got them even, (or so I thought until after the piercing when I realized that they were just a hair off, oh well they still look cute)
Now for the best part, the long awaited piercing. I laid down and Abe put the clamp on my cheek.I had read lots of experiences about cheek piercings all of which said that getting your cheeks pierced is just pressure, but I wouldn't even call it that. It didn't feel like anything to me. Abe did it so quick I barely felt it. Out of the whole procedure the thing that hurt the most was the clamps (as usual) He had a little bit of trouble putting the ball on the jewelry but it was no big deal. Next, the right side, same thing, really no pain. This time he had no trouble putting the ball on. It bled a little bit, big heavy drops too.
All done. I sat up,looked in the mirror and instantly fell in love. They look(ed) gorgeous. Abe did an amazing job of making it quick and painless. So I paid Abe and left. We went to Wal*Mart afterwards. They felt fine until about a half an hour after. Then they began to ache. The kind of feeling you get after you smiled all day long, or you chewed your gum too long. I could feel them begin to swell but it wasn't very noticeable.
I didn't anything the rest of the evening. Sleeping was fine. I only bumped them once or twice that was bad enough to wake me up. I had no trouble sleeping on either side because both were placed in an area that didn't effect laying on my sides.
The next day _ _ _ (which would be day 2)
The swelling was bad (or so said my mom and Kevin) but I couldn't really tell. Eating was near impossible because every time I opened my mouth big I got that achy felling I mentioned earlier. So milkshakes were all that I ate that day. Making out was totally out of the question. I took lots of Ibuprofen to help with the pain and keep swelling to a minimum ( I don't think it really worked)
Day three _ _ _
Swelling was even worse today. I noticed it finally. My cheeks looked like they had a kilo of hamster of food in them in the words of Kevin. Eating was possible, that is if you cut the food into tiny tiny little bites you can swallow without chewing. Chewing hurt because the jewelry is so long and always gets caught between my two sets of teeth when I bite down. So a milkshake, tiny pieces of veggie burger and yogurt were all I ate. Once again I took a lot of Ibuprofen. Sleeping was no problem. I only bumped them once (after I woke up and was stretching)
Day four _ _ _
It is only the beginning of day four so I can't say much. The swelling seems to have gone down a little over night and they are pretty achy right now.
Over all the swelling and lack of food were most definitely worth it. I absolutely adore my new cheek piercings. Also if you're in the area I would definitely recommend Abe at Sudden Urge Tattoo. He does an amazing job at making the piercing as quick and painless as possible.
