Well, Hi again. Today I am going to tell you all about my experience with piercing number 23. I have finally finished my project in both of my ears (plus I don't really have any more room lol), so I thought I would be after a new piercing elsewhere.
At A Glance Author Kezza Contact Kezza@bme.anon When N/A Artist Paul Errington Studio Flesh Impressions Location Broadbeach, Gold Coast, Australia I had liked the look of the Labret for a while now. I didn't really think a Vertical Labret would be for me and definately not a ring, so a nice small little labret stud would be nice.
Problem is my husband does not like piercing, which is wierd because he is all for tattoos (he has one), and I have two tattoos which he did not crack up about either of them when I got them done, but he has some wierd idea that piercings are more permanent type of body mod.
I dropped a few hints around the house here and there until one night he asked me if I was planning on getting another piercing. I said "yes", which he added "you are too old and you don't need any more". Geez, if I wanted to be treated like that I would still be living with my mother.
Anyway, last night he was a karate, and because the week before I dyed his hair blonde and everyone hated it, they shaved his head bald, which personally I think does not suit him, but I didn't say anything because I kinda figure now that we can live our lives the way we want.
Anyway, I thought this would be a good angle to take should he crack the shits when I got my much wanted Labret piercing he was against.
Anyway, I decided to head down to Flesh Impressions again today (Friday). I can only really get there on Fridays because my piercer (and the owner of the store) Paul, only works Tuesdays and Fridays, and he has done alot of my piercing so I trust him.
I was down there a week before and he tapered my first ear piercings to fit some 14g fake stretches, and I expressed my interest in getting a Labret piercing but with a fairly small ball.
So, myself and my daughter arrive at Flesh Impressions. I was nervous about this piercing, I don't know why, I guess I thought it would hurt heaps around the mouth even though my tongue didn't. I promised my daughter if she sat still we could go to Dreamworld afterwards :)
I did the usual filling out of forms etc etc, and was led into the room followed by Samantha my daughter, who has been here a few times already, so she grabs a drink of water from the fountain and sits down on the little metal seat inside.
Now, if you are ever down the Gold Coast and feel the itch for a new piercing, I would highly recommend Flesh Impressions. I have been there quite a few times and always feel welcome and safe there.
Paul wiped my under lip with an alcohol swab and placed a dot where I wanted it. (I have a small dimple under my lip, so I wanted it there, in the middle). I checked the placement, which was perfect, and sat back down. He gave me a small cup of mouthwash to swish for 30seconds, which was hard to do because I was feeling like I was starting to dry wreach from the taste YUCK, but once that was over, it was down to business.
I chose to lie down on the bed just incase I felt a little giddy. Needle went in, then jewellery, and it took a total of about 20seconds, really, and I was stressing about absolutely nothing, seriously. It was a small pinch, that was all. Maybe I am just use to the same piercing feel about now, maybe not, but it was so much easier than half my ear cartlidge piercings were.
I had a look in the mirror and was real happy. Paul looked after me as usual with paying and I was out the door.
As I promised, we spent a few hours at Dreamworld because Sammy was good in the piercing room, then went home to pick up the other daughter from school.
I sent my husband a message on the way home warning him about what I did, and he rang me up and started about the same old thing that I was too old for it blah blah blah, but I just mentioned to him that I didn't say anything to him regarding what he did to his head the night before and he sort of calmed down. He said he was worried about what people would think, I said to him that I don't care what people think and if he doesn't care about what people say about his bald head, then he shouldn't worry about me. I think it worked because he gave up :)
I will go back to Paul in 2 weeks and have the bar switched to a smaller length one as I know this long one is going to give me hell. I know it is suppose to be for swelling and the like, but I usually heal fairly well, and 5-6hours later there is no swelling, so I think I will be okay.
If you are really thinking about a Labret piercing, I would say go for it. I did and so far do not regret it, who knows what will happen down the track though :)
Happy piercing
