When It just happened
Studio Flesh Impressions
Location Broadbeach, Qld, Australia
Today was the day. After at least three weeks of deliberation between my boyfriend and I decided to get it done. But, I should probably start from the start.

Three weeks ago my boyfriend and I decided we wanted to pierce our lips. I have been contemplating it for at least three years. Honestly, I've wanted it done for ages but my parents said no and I was only fourteen so it wasn't going to happen without their permission. At the age of fifteen and a half I was like, "Yep, right 16 and its getting done" (This is the age where you don't need guardian approval for most piercings in Australia). When I turned sixteen it just did not happen and by then, every man and his dog had it and it was way too common.

So back to the story, three weeks ago we decided we would get it done. We spoke to people and my boyfriend actually went to get it done but they said there was no drinking, smoking, oral sex or drugs for three weeks. Well, it was his 19th two days after so he didn't get it done. We decided no to get it done for awhile. And we decided to leave it. However I was walking at a shopping center and ran into a friend who just impulsively got his labret pierced. He said Flesh Impressions; across the road is where he just got his done.

Alex and I decided to go check it out. We entered the store a little scared to tell you the truth, flesh impressions was the name and the doors to the stairs to get to the place reminded us of a dungeon, then there were holes in the walls. We went up stairs and there were a few shops, entered flesh impressions and were instantly impressed. The entire place was clean, smelt fresh and everything was in cases and ordered. There was no clutter and it seemed very, very clean.

The girl that served us was very nice and very helpful. She explained about the procedure, the price, different lengths of time, when we can change the bar (I have to have clear for work); what were the risks and all that. She said for one to two weeks we couldn't drink, smoke, oral sex and drugs etc. She also explained that there is no swimming in pools... but the ocean is an excellent way to help the healing process. We decided to come back on the Monday after big day out and get it done.

So during the weekend we asked our friends who had it done what it was like. One girl said it didn't hurt, another boy said it didn't hurt and one other said it only hurt because he had it re done through scar tissue. So with that in mind, we decided to research on the internet. We read other peoples stories on here and no one seemed to suffer any pain. I read in some stories that they numbed it and in others that they didn't. Either way, not many suffered pain.

Monday morning came, aka today. I woke up had a light meal and brushed my teeth a lot (I have braces) and rinsed my mouth with mouth wash a lot! Then Alex picked me up and we headed to the studio. I have to admit I was nervous, my first facial piercing I have my ears done twice and my left ear stretched. I was nervous but then Alex said he wanted to go first that was fine.

We entered the studio and it was clean like it was on the previous Friday. The same girl was attending and she talked us through everything for a second time which I think was extremely professional even though she knew us she still went though everything. We had to fill out a liability form and do a questionnaire thing which was asking if we had slept well the pervious night, taken drugs, alcohol, prescription drugs, if we had any allergies, smoked, if we suffered from various diseases or if we busied easily. She looked over our question sheets, told us to choose our bars/rings and then took us through the back room. I asked if I could watch Alex get it done.

It was all very... clean. She sanitized everything, washed her hands, everything she used was new out of a sealed bag, and wore gloves. She was very clean also. I sat and watched Alex get it done and then he said it was fine.

It was my turn. I sat on the bed and she re-cleaned everything, put on new gloves, and got a new sealed bag of tools. She sterilized the area and made me use mouth wash again. She then asked where I wanted it done. Alex got his on the left and I wanted mine on the right. I asked for it close to the lip so you couldn't see any white skin between the piercing and the lip, and not to far to the side and not too close to the middle. She drew the dot, I gave the okay and it happened. She clamped my lip, talking me though the entire thing, she inserted the needle and it wasn't painless... but then again it wasn't painful. It was just un-comfortable. She put the bar in and my lip started swelling, but not too much.

We went out the front and she gave us both a little package with aftercare instructions, solution to clean it, stickers, business card, information booklet and some other little things to help it heal. She also gave me a clear ball to put on the top just for the next six weeks until I can actually get a clear bar for work. So, we said our good byes and headed to the chemist to get Oral-B mouth wash which was what she told us to get because it was alcohol free, and if it did have alcohol it would burn. So we got the Oral-B and headed home to suck on ice and eat icy poles all day, which is what we did.

At the moment ten hours after, it's fine. Bit swollen, no discomfort yet and there is also none for Alex. However, only time will tell I guess!!! If you're thinking about getting it done, I recommend RESEARCH. Also, check the piercing place's website before you go Alex and I didn't and we found out if you say "mad Monday" (we got it done on a Monday) you get a 20% discount and free aftercare. Haha.
