Hi, Im 16 years old, and I never really got into body modification until I saw this guy with really large gauge ear plugs one day. I was usually disgusted at body piercing, but I thought this guys lobes were amazing. Over the years, I pierced my orbital and my lobes. As long as it was on my ears, my parents never cared. But I never stretched anything up before.

So lately, I had been begging my mom to let me pierce my labret. I secretly wanted to large gauge it out, but I didn't tell her that. Whenever I asked her, she would tell me that she wouldn't care that much, its just that my father would be upset. So after begging her for about 3 months, I told her that I would try and hide it and if he found it I would tell him it was all my idea and not hers. She reluctantly agreed after I promised to wash her car every week.

It took a while before I got to go down to the piercing shop and get it pierced. My mom was stalling me until after school let out for summer, because she didn't know what the teachers would think If I came to school with my lip pierced. I told her I didn't care because its not right to judge someone by their piercings anyway. She still waited until the summer because I would be out of the house all the time and my dad wouldn't see it very much. When I got to David's Counter Culture (local piercing studio), the guys were really nice. This guy named mike was my assistant. He clearly went over how to clean it and sanitize it. It was over with pretty quick and didn't hurt that bad. He just counted to three and pushed it through. He pierced it with a 12 gauge needle, and i put a 14 gauge retainer in it. He did a great job, thanks Mike.

I told my mom i wanted to hang out for a while, so she said okay. When she left I went down stairs to the jewelry shop and bought 12g, 10g, 8g, 6g, and 4g jewelry pieces for it. I stayed the night at a friends house to let the swelling go down before I got back to my house so my dad didn't see it. I hate the fact that he doesn't understand why I do these things. He's too old.

I successfully hid the piercing from him for 3 weeks until it was heeled until I decided to gauge it up to the 12. I don't think it was completely healed up yet, because it bled a little when I stretched it. I used a skin colored retainer, so I hid the 12 easily as well. After another 2 weeks passed, I continued to the 10. The 10 was white, so there was no more hiding it. My dad saw it and freaked out. He grounded me for doing it without his permission, but he said I could keep it in because it was the summer, but I had to take it out before school.

So every 2 weeks I would gauge it up another measure, I wasn't worried about having to take it out, because by the end of the summer, I was up to a 000g, and that's too large to just take out, so I told him I made a mistake and this will be here forever, so he just let me keep it. All my friends schools don't allow facial piercing other than ears, but my school allows it because of an activist kid that talked the school board into allowing it, so they don't care. But I secretly loved it. I did everything right, so the stretching never hurt that much and it didn't get infected...much, but most piercing gets infected a little.

By Christmas I had a 1 inch labret, which is what I have kept, and i plan on keeping. Im planning on stretching my lobes soon, and getting other facial piercings like snake bites, a Monroe, and a medusa. Everyone thinks my labret is gross, but I tell them Its strongly part of my beliefs, and they respect it. I am so in love with my labret, I don't think I will ever regret it.

Whatever you do, DO NOT pierce unprofessionally or by yourself. My friend tried to do the same thing I did, and he did it himself, and he had a lot of problems. Its so much more worth it to get it done. My friends lip got so infected, he had to go to the emergency room, because he pierced his labret with a nail. I told him not to but he didn't listen. Happy piercing.
