After careful consideration and a long fight with my parents, I decided that I definitely wanted my lip pierced. I had been wanting it pierced for a long time I just didn't want to deal with my parents' reactions to it. (I'm from a very small town and people aren't always the most receptive of such modifications) But in the end I decided it was something I really wanted and would suit me well, and I just needed a change to jumpstart this 2nd year of college. So--lip piercing it was. The day I decided to get it done, it was a pretty impulsive decision. I drove back into town and passed by Ink Link--seeing that it was open I decided I would walk down there and get it over with later that day.
At A Glance Author Leah Contact Leah@bme.anon When A month ago Artist Bryon Studio Ink Link Location Boone, NC I ate some food and drank a coke before I walked over to Ink Link (I had heard that it helps you from passing out because of the sugar in it so I figured better safe than sorry.)
I met a couple of my friends that wanted to come watch and we walked across campus together and over to the studio. I'd never been in there before but it was nice enough, I guess. I've seen better but, it's Boone so, what can you really expect.
I signed some paperwork and told the guy at the front desk what I was wanting and waited around until my name was called. It was all kind of surreal. I couldn't believe I was there, getting it done finally. I was pretty excited though, I had been wanting it for a long time and had just never gone through with it.
My name was called and I went back in the piercing room with the guy from the front desk--who turned out to be my piercer--Bryon. He asked if I wanted a stud or a ring and I picked a stud. He asked me if I wanted one with a sparkly "diamond" on the end and I laughed and said "No..I think I'll just take the plain one." seeing as how I'm not a very sparkly type person. I was a little skeptical of the piercer to begin with, actually. He seemed really young and kept bouncing around to the music that was playing. (Humorous...but this guy was going to be pushing a needle through my lip, so I hoped he knew what he was doing). He got all the materials ready and had me rinse with listerine for like a minute or two. Then he marked the left side, which was where I wanted it but I didn't like the placement so I had him move it closer to my lip and over to the right a little more. He turned around to get the needle and I closed my eyes (he never showed me the needle or anything so I was glad about that because I hate them with a passion). He took hold of my lip (he didn't use clamps), and told me to take a super deep breathe then exhale. I felt this really weird pressure-feeling slide all the way through my lip and then the needle hung there for a second and then I felt him slide the jewelry through and tighten the ball on the end.
I was still holding onto the chair really tightly and had breathing very methodically and he asked if I was feeling okay, I laughed (because i realized how ridiculous I probably looked) and said i was fine and then he showed me what I looked like and I loved it. He gave me an aftercare sheet and told me what to do in order to take care of my new piercing, I thanked him, and went home. He did a really good job and I was surprised at how painless the entire procedure was.
A month Later: It has healed up nicely. I haven't taken it out but once but it wasn't too hard to get back in or anything then and I think if I took it out now it would be even easier to get back in. I still like it and everybody tells me that it looks really cute so, that's what I'm going on. My parents still don't like it but I guess they're getting used to it. My dad laughed at me and told me it looked like a zit. haha. (I think he actually likes it but won't admit it). But anyway--
Bottom line: If you're thinking about getting your lip pierced I say go for it. This was a great first-needle-piercing-experience. It was completely painless (no kidding) (gauging my ears hurt about a million times worse than this) and very minimal swelling occurred and---it looks incredibly cute. :) So it is totally worth it.
theend.
