I have had my labret pierced a few years ago, and loved it. However I had to take it out because I developed nasty ulcers around it that would not go away. I had toyed with the idea of getting it redone, but was not really willing to go through the healing again.I had found it problematic to heal it first time round and couldn't be fussed doing it again.I wanted a piercing but wasn't sure what. I have my right nipple done, but didn't want to get the other done. I am trying to stretch my ears, and my nose still hasn't healed from when i had that pierced with a gun four years ago.Until a usual friday night out when a girl I saw in the pub had a cheek piercing, the first I had ever seen in the flesh as it were. I wanted it! It looked so pretty, shining there when she smiled. I wanted a shiny ball, one like hers that you only noticed when I smiled. It happened that my brother was itching for his septum piercing too so we both decided to go get pierced together. We went to Dare u, as my brother has had most of his piercings done there and speaks very highly of Julie.

So in we amble, and potter around waiting for two girls to have their tongue bars changed before we could go in. Nerves are building, and my brother looks seriously pale and in danger of wussing out. He has several piercings, but apparently has chickened out of having his septum done several times, so I made him go first, and after he is all hole-d up and shaky I sit on the couch for my turn.

On is sprayed the nasty (not banana tasting as promised) numbing spray, and a wipe on the outside.

Julie fiddles around with which jewellry she thinks would look best, stalling to give the numbers time to work. I chose a tiny crystally jewel to go on the end, just sparkly enough.

I had read that you can feel the needle going through the layers of skin but never believed it. After the clamps go on, and i have dribbled all over, i took a deep breath and fell every layer as the needle pentrates it. The last bit of skin on the inside went pop. It was an odd experience, not painful,it was just pressure.

The most painful bit was putting the jewellry in, a 12 labret bar. Julie is left handed and found it fiddly. It pulled and that was the worst over.

I was given mouth wash and a glass of water. By now I was feeling a little woozy from the rush, and also thirsty as anything.

She explained that there should be plenty of swelling room, and that if it did swell then I would have to get it changed to a tongue bar as she didn't think they made labrets any bigger. We were given the usual talk of after care, and to call her if we had any problems.

We paid the lady with big grins, and she refused any tips, saying to get my brothers daughter some sweets with it! Big grins later, and me showing it to the people waiting in the waiting room, we leave very happy bunnies.

The next day there was virtually no swelling, and very little crusties. The day after the swelling arrived. It was minimal, and the jewellry was still sticking out. On the Sunday, it swelled massively. The little ball went into my cheek. I panicked. I tried to take it out, and failed. I rang Julie who advised me to keep icing it, and if it was still bad in the morning come in and get it changed.

By this time it had started to look gooey. Not massively, but still kinda gross.

The next day it was worse. I get the train to Durham and held my finger inside to keep the ball out of my cheek, feeling like a right wally.

I get to Julie, and she says I can probably get away with leaving the labret bar in, but if I feel more comfortable with a longer one she will put it in for me. In goes a huge tongue bar, the only painful bit again being the fiddling with the ball. The relief of the pressure was delicious. I hadn't realised how much it was squished til it wasn't.

The tongue bar feels huge on the inside, and the ball is a lot bigger than my crystal, but its only for a week or so til it stops swelling. I can put up with a bigger ball as long as I don't loose my piercing.Eating is interesting because the back is a larger disk, and tends to knock on my back teeth. But on the whole it is a lot more comfortable.

Julie refused to take any payment, and I left the studio once again smiling with my new piercing.
