Well I had been talking about getting a piercing done for years since I was 14 or so. Didn't want a tongue ring because my sister had it and half of my friends do, wanted some thing people would see every time they saw me!! Eyebrow ring?? Monroe?? Nose?? Labret??!! YES So Labret it was!!

August 10th 2005 My Mom and I were shopping and looking through Downtown. We walked by a tattoo and piercing shop. My Mom said Tamara go get something pierced you know you want to. I was like OK let's go. We went into the shop. Asked about getting my lip pierced. No piercers where there all at lunch. So we waited one guy comes in, we talk to him he says to wait for the other guy who does custom jewelry, it would be best Ook. So we wait some more. "Mom this is a sign I'm just not supposed to do this, it will hurt, and I'll look dumb. It WILL hurt!!" that's what I said to my mom. She told me to shut up and do it. In walks the guy he said hey you waiting for me?? Uumm yea guess so. He has me fill out a few forms. Talks to me about what size ball/gauge I want. 14 gauge? SURE!! Come on back, not you Mom just chill out here. WHAT??? Are you serious I need my Mommy, hahaha. Ok we left her to chat with the tattoo guy.

So we go to the back he tells me cons of the piercing and that if I get a fishtail it will lessen the chances of my gums getting rubbed away. The back room was small, well lit and cute. Had a lot of pictures on the walls. Sat on a table thing like at the hospital got comfy. OK cool so lets get it done I say. He gets all his stuff together. He was very clean about it using new gloves to touch every thing. So he cleaned my lip and marked the spot (perfect on the first try). He said I had a perfect pout line so it was easy to mark it. He then got the jewelry out and bent it to the shape of my gum line so it fit perfect. He was talking to me the whole time. I told him I was scared and he laughed at me, told me it would hurt less than the cartilage piercings I have (5 of them). Yea right. I was just yapping away. He took my mind off of being so nervous. OK, so he gets the clamp and puts it in place and clamps my lip (which did NOT hurt at all, a little uncomfortable at the least!!). He grabs the needle sticks it thru felt a small pinch (said a curse word or two) then BAM it was over had a needle sticking thru my lip (which I saw in a mirror, kind of made me nauseous), then he pushed the lip ring thru and I was set. Over YES so why was I so worried?? That didn't hurt much at all (to each is own on the pain, but for me it was just like a cat scratch) and it looked great!! He explained the cleaning process. Gave me some papers of the cleaning process incase I forget. I paid. And was on my way. It was the best $75 bucks I spent ($15 for a big can of H2ocean spray to clean with). My Mom was smiling ear-to-ear she said it looked great. Days went by and no swelling just a little red, changed my ring to a ball and back to the ring within the first week. I was happy!! Went back got a new fishtail this time with little colored stones on it and ordered many colors. He said it looked good for only being a couple weeks old.

Fast-forward 13 months, SAD to say I had to take it out. It rubbed my gums away on 2 teeth and started working on a 3rd one. I didn't notice it was rubbing never hurt. Tough decision but had to think about my teeth so it had to come out. That was hard because I loved my labret. Now its weird not to have it I still feel like it there, someone told me your piercing become a part of you, SO true. Would I do it again, in a heartbeat!! OhHHhh WELL.... next week I'm getting a new piercing just not sure what to get!! Maybe a tattoo, haven't got one yet would be something new. So yeah any one who wants to get a labret piercing I say GO for it. It's fun and cute. That's my story. Hopefully I'll have more to come
