Last week I went with a friend to get her right lowbret pierced. I came home from work, not thinking about anything of the sort, and she said "Hey, want to go to St. Sabrina's with me? I think I want to get this pierced." She pointed to her right lowbret. She had seen it on some hipster girl, a friend of a friend I think, and wanted to get it done.
At A Glance Author CGS Contact CGS@bme.anon When A week ago Artist Don't Remember Studio St. Sabrinas Location Minneapolis, MN "Sure," I said. I had a tattoo drawn up that I wanted to get priced, and I wasn't doing anything else, so I decided to go. Besides, I'm sure she didn't want to go alone. I got my conch pierced 2 months ago, and I went by myself. It's just not as fun if you don't have someone to giggle nervously with.
When we got there, I wasn't thinking about getting a piercing at all, just being her support. We waited around looking at the fancy body jewelry they had. St. Sabrina's is a pretty classy place, with lots of expensive gold and diamond encrusted pretties. I was just looking for a new bead for my conch.
Then we went to the piercing artist's quarters. She laid down on the antique doctor's bench, and we both listened to the instructions of the piercer. He had stretched nostrils, a shaved and tattooed head, and full sleeves. I was intimidated at first, but he was really just a big silly joker. He told her that he would never get the piercing she was getting, because it would hurt too much (he was joking, of course).
So she got it, and it was so so cute! She got a really super tiny tiny diamond stud. She said it only hurt a second, and it wasn't as bad as she thought. We were giggling when she got it done, and all that nervous energy got me wanting to get some kind of sparkly thing put into me too.
But I didn't want to get the same thing as her, because that's just copying, and I do need to be slightly original. Not that piercings are all that original anyway, and she was getting hers because she saw someone else with one, but you know.
I do like the Monroe piercings, but I'm not sure how comfortable it would be. The piercing artist advised against it, saying it could cause gum recession and, eventually, tooth loss. Yuk! That is the opposite of glamourous.
I ended up getting a tiny diamond stud on the left side of my labret, in between the center and corner of my bottom lip. It's touching the bottom of my lip, like a sparkly birthmark. I think it's kind of equivalent to a monroe piercing, only more conspicuous. It draws attention to a sexier part of the face. I'm not crazy about my upper lip, but I've got a good full lower one.
The same day, I also got a tiny freshwater pearl to put in my captive bead ring conch piercing.
I was a little nervous about going to work the next Monday. I just started a new job, my first real job in an office, and was afraid it would be frowned upon. But I know a couple of girls who work there with nose piercings, so I figured it would be okay.
It ended up being really well received.... People said nice things about it, and shared their piercing stories. It ended up being a good conversation piece.
It's been a week now, and I love it more and more. The post is a little too long, to accomodate the initial swelling, but in another couple of weeks I can get a shorter one put in, so it will be flush against my lip. It was only swollen for like, one day, and now it's only a little tender. I've been flushing my mouth with saline solution (one teaspoon of sea salt for every four cups of water) and soaking it. There have been crusties, which is gross, but they'll be gone soon. Apparently oral piercings heal the fastest (unlike my conch piercing, which is going to take forever.... Like a year). I'm contemplating getting a very very small light pink or gold diamond once it heals, but I'll have to scout out my local body jewelry sources. I'm going for the vintage pin up look. I also have a wedding to go to in two months (my own), and I'm wearing a tan silk 40's style gown with peachy chiffon and pearl embroidery. My jewelry for this occasion is all vintage, so I'll need a vintage-y little stud to match. My in -laws are going to freak out about it a little bit, since it's right before the wedding and all.... Plus I just chopped my hair from a long bob into a longish funky pixie cut and dyed it dark brown. I feel very glam, so who cares what they think? And the husband to be likes it too.
I am a little nervous about it causing tooth problems... It's bumping up against my tooth, but hopefully the shorter post will remedy this.
