This is how everything began. I have this cousin [Aaron] who has worked at a Tattoo shop for a while now, and I was always interested in body piercing, it was a weird fascination to others, but I never really put that much thought into it for myself. After a while though, I kind of realized that I loved the look of lip rings. [I got this from Tom DeLonge off of that band Blink182] Not particularly the labret, which is really common, especially amongst guys, but that "offset" style. It just seemed fun and looked nothing short of awesome. Since Aaron had been doing body piercings now for four maybe even 5 years, I totally and completely trust that he knows exactly what it is that he's doing. After a bit of research and looking at others pictures, I asked him about maybe getting my lip pierced, and he said he'd do it for me. So after a few days of thinking some more and a couple talks with my parents to convince them that it's not really that big of a deal, everything was finally in order and I could get it done!

Well the day came sooner than I anticipated, but it seemed no sooner could I wait. It was getting ridiculous, like even to the point thats all i'd think about. Me and my sister were having a big keg party at my parents house that day and as soon as i came home from work Aaron also came over. He brought everything he needed. We went to my kitchen and I sat on one of the chairs and he made a little mark up under my lip and asked me to look at and see what i thought about the placement. So I went to the bathroom, checked it out and it was fine. Everything seemed perfect.

Then he put the clamps on, which didn't hurt, like some people might tell you. It truly wasn't bad at all. It really seems like some people over or under exaggerate their experience, or maybe everyone is just different. I don't really want to get into all of that now, but this is just me: I took in a big breath and in went the needle. I'm not going to be one to tell you that it didn't hurt at all, because I could definitely feel that needle pierce the skin, but I will say it's not as bad as you'd think it would be. Then he put in the bar and I was finished. It took a minute to set in that I finally got it done. But I was soo excited.

Right afterwards I couldn't even tell it was there. Then the next morning when I woke up I went downstairs to get some fruitloops for breakfast. It really seemed kind of awkward eating, this is because I kept biting down on the bar. Other than that, everything was still perfectly fine.

Than later on that day, my lip started to swell. I had to work those three days back to back. [the day i got it pierced, and the next two days.]

I went to work and it seemed as though no one really even noticed. I was actually kind of glad because I was a little bit self conscious about the swelling part. I just didn't want to have a huge lip. I hate looking funny. So for the next day the only thing I found myself eating was popcicles, since it's seems to be known that "cold" or ice in general reduces any kind of swelling, but not only that, but if you were in pain, it would help make you feel numb.

About three days after that the swelling was all the way gone, and the piercing was totally painless. The only time it hurt was when I switched my bar to a clear retainer for work, but that was nothing. And it only hurt because the inside wasn't fully healed.

I've rinsed my mouth out with some diluted [50% water] citrus mouth wash a couple times everyday since day one, i use that to keep the oral bacteria at a minimum. The last thing I need is an infected lip, that would pretty much suck. Also, I used peroxide [it's also diluted to about 50%] about three times throughout the day, and I follow that with some sea salt, to help speed up the healing process.

It's not even been a month yet, I believe it's been about 10 days maybe 11. Everything has turned out better than I could have imagined. If anyone is thinking about getting this done, I say go for it. Trust me, you'll thank yourself later. =]

And now, I'm thinking of doing something really different. Aaron had it done, and I thought it was the neatest thing ever.

Anyone out there ever heard of a nape piercing? Basically it's where they pierced the back of your neck.

So keep checking in and I'll let you know just how that one goes.
