About a year ago I became very interested in piercing and tattoo's, at my age I don't want a tattoo, too permanent, so I set out to get myself some interesting piercing's. Previous to this I'd had 8 gun piercing, I found needle piercing to be a totally new experience, I felt as though I'd been a novice going to the chemist, and was now worthy of showing off my beautiful properly earned piercing's. Until now they had all been on my ears, except my belly button.

A month ago I got my first facial piercing, a fantastic little 16 gauge labret. I'd never really wanted a facial piercing before, always thought I was too conservative, but after looking on BME I fell in love with labret piercing with a small ball, rather than massive jewelry.

Once I knew what I wanted, the hard part began, convincing my mum, to begin with I got the usual disapproving talk about how disgusting they are, but eventually she actually admitted to liking the look of Madonna's! This was at least a step in the right direction.

After about a month she finally agreed to give me permission and I was set.

Of coarse I had to go in to get it done the day after she finally gave me permission. I had no problem working out where to go, sacred art is the place to go in Newcastle, my friends and I all go there. Just a note, when your choosing a place to get pierced, look around! Is it clean? Is there carpet? To the pierces have qualifications? Do they tell you the risks instead of just piercing you regardless of any possible complications? These are very important things, these people are inserting something foreign into an open wound in your body! You need to trust them to do a good job and take care of you during the healing process. This is the case with sacred art, I would recommend them to anyone.

I have a tendency to almost faint every time I get pierced, I don't know why, I've never been a fainter. For this reason I recruited a friend for moral support and to make sure I don't faint half way down some stairs or something. We went into Newy, I didn't have an appointment but that wasn't a problem, I filled out the forms and they called my parents for permission, I couldn't believe I was going to finally get it, I was also pretty scared.

After being briefed on the risks and aftercare we went into the piercing room. I don't know what people mean about the clamps hurting, I didn't notice any pain. I myself have never had any numbing for any of my piercing, so I wasn't going to for this one, thus I noticed, I felt the needle the whole time as it moved through my lip, it wasn't unbearable, but it hurt. The pinch as the jewelry went in was probably the most painful, but it was over quickly. It was done! My first though was, omg I can feel this massive thing in front of my teeth, its going to drive me crazy, but that hasn't been the case, I'm getting used to it. I was fine to get up n look, then the dizzy hit me, I had to lie down for about 10 minutes, then I was fine.

After about 7 hours I wasn't having any problems, no need for pain killers, gums were a little sore though. I started off doing my 10 minute soaks twice a day and the mouth wash for about the first 2 days, then I don't think I've done it since then. I don't recommend this to anyone! You should follow the regime set out by your piercer, I've been really lucky to not have problems. In the early days of healing I did have one problem, one night I woke up because something was running down my chin, turned out it was bleeding, a lot! I ended standing over a sink for 10 mins while blood ran off my chin and out of my mouth! Funny thing is I never had any bleeding whilst being pierced, nor any little bits of died blood around the jewelry, ever! Just this massive bleed, then the same thing happened again 2 days later, after that there was no more blood. I knew I wasn't bumping it because it wasn't sore, bruised or swollen (and I got bashed in the mouth by a 2 year old really hard and it didn't even bleed then).

So I'm loving my labret, favorite piercing ever. I'm hoping to do law at uni though, so it will probably have to come out, but I'll never forget my beautiful labret!

I don't know If I'll get anymore piercing, that was part of the deal with my mum. But I think that would be ok, no need to overdo it.
