Okay, let's let the first thing that I say to be that it is almost NEVER a good idea to try to pierce yourself. If you're very lucky, your piercing will heal nicely and you won't have any problems. This is probably very unlikely.

I've almost always thought piercings were some of the coolest things I'd ever seen. I wanted a vertical labret more than anything, but I knew that was not something that it was smart to do by yourself. It could easily be off center, and right through the lip.. ouchy! I didn't really trust myself with that one. But I was for sure determined to get something. I've had many failed piercings. (Several random lobe piercings, eyebrow, nose, tongue web.) Most of these failed because the hole would close up too fast to get the jewelery in. The ears usually went okay, except they would get infected or irritated very easily. My only self piercing that turned out okay was my transverse lobe named Angelo. I'll stop talking about my other piercings before I get too in depth and now it's time for me to talk about my lip.

Since forever I've wanted a lip piercing on the right side of my lip. My parents have said "NO!" about a thousand times. It really makes me mad that they are so close-minded and such. But since I heard that lip piercings don't hurt hardly at all, I was tempted REALLY badly to try one myself. And since I'm only fourteen, there was pretty much no other solution.

Sooo, here's my story. I waited until my parents were outside working on the lawn and whatever else. Then I went up to my room, turned on my favorite Underoath CD to get me calmed down and happy, grabbed a straight 14ga barbell (I figured that I could just screw the ball off the end of it and my parents wouldn't notice it. (WRONG!) I also got some safety pins, which I guess were about a 19ga, and also this blunt tapered needle that got up to a 14-ish.

I washed my hands, brushed my teeth really well, and rinsed off all the jewelery and needles with rubbing alcohol. haha, I'm dumb, I know. I clamped my lip with this hair clip thing and put an eraser inside of my lip. Next, I grabbed one of the safety pins and shoved it through. It honestly didn't hurt much at all. It slid in really well, except it was a little gross that I could hear the skin stretch, and there was a little popping sound when it came through. Ick.

Next I was going to try to stretch the hole up to a 14. I grabbed the thick tapered needle and tried to shove it in as hard as I could. I decided it was not happening. So in went the safety pin again and I wiggled it around and twisted it, left it in for about fifteen minutes while icing my lip to reduce the swelling.

Now for the tapered needle for the second time. I did it. Fast. And wow.. OUCH! I tried to get the straight barbell in, but I just couldn't find the hole when I tried to put in in through the back of my lip. I put an ear stud in, stupid. but it slid in really easily, except for the last bit of skin. I made a new hole in the back which was pretty painful, and did that several other times, resulting in about four holes in the inside of my lip all swelling up at once. ughh. So I figured that the hole just was not big enough to get a 14ga anything in. I got this hoop earring in that looked like a CBR, and looked really nice, actually. I went downstairs to the computer to tell all of my friends the news! Most of them were kind of freaked out by it, but I was like "whatever", I love it.

My parents soon noticed and I was like "WHY DO YOU HAVE TO RUIN EVERYTHING?!?!" haha. So, unfortunately I had to take it out. =(.

That night I had a little weird feeling in my lip, and a lot of swelling. When I got home I ate about two full cups of ice chips and let me tell you, TYLENOL will be your best friend if you're looking to reduce oral piercing swelling. So today, I have a little pain in my lip, and lots of swelling, once again. Tylenol fixed this once again, and now it's pretty much better.

I think that I will wait until I'm eighteen to get my lip professionally done, and I'll never pierce myself again. Or at least for a while, until I feel stupid enough to try again.
