Ever since I could remember I had wanted to get a piercing. I had begged and pleaded and all that got me was the permission to stretching my ears. Then soon after, when I turned 15, everything began to happen. My parents (actually my mother) took me into get my tongue pierced, then soon enough I was getting my tragus. Well, then after that it just left me with the feeling of wanting more. So I piercing four new holes in my ears with a safetypin (not the smartest thing to do, but hey, it worked for me). But that still wasn't enough. And like so many others say... that once you get one, that's just not enough! You're almost addicted. You just get the urge out of no where for a needle to be stuck underneath your skin and that beautiful adrenaline rush.

So about a year later, I thought it was about time for me to talk my mother into, yet another, piercing. I really wanted my lip done. Until, I figured out the perfect thing for me instead. I was looking here on BME and saw pictures of people who got a Monroe/Madonna, and I thought, "That's it! That's exactly what I want!" So I barely even had to beg my mom. She was all for it!
Before I knew it, we were pulling up to A-Z Masters. I was so excited! I called my best guy friend and he was there within a few minutes to watch. I immediately chose a purple spike jewelry piece and then after filling out the paper work, I was on my way to the back. I then proceeded to wash my mouth out with Listerine, and took a seat (in what is now becoming a very familiar chair). I watched as he cleaned the area that was to be pierced and chose a spot that he thought would look good. After he placed the little purple dot, I braced myself for what was to come. I closed my eyes, and with a few deep breaths and a poke, it was done. I looked in the mirror and was very pleased with what I saw.
That night, my plan was to clean the piercing, then get some sleep. Well, I got some Q-tips and began to clean off the nasty little crusties that lurked around the piercing, when all of the sudden I heard something hit the counter. I looked down to see the little purple spike sitting in the sink. Then, I felt something metal in my mouth. I spit it out, only to realize it was the back to the jewelry! I was in a state of shock at first trying to figure out what had just happened. Then I just screamed on the top of my lungs saying some words that I don't think I should repeat and woke up my entire house. They all came running in to the sight of me, with blood running down my face, determined to get the piece of jewelry back in the hole. Despite my best efforts, I couldn't get it back in. So the next morning I called my piercer and told him what had happened, and he told me to come back in in two weeks and he will re-pierce it for free.
Soon, after a long awaited two weeks, I went back into the studio, and chose a different piece of jewelry (a metal ball, not the stupid spike). I was kinda sad, because the same friend that I had come with me last time was out of state... So it was just me and my mom. I sat back down in the seat after washing my mouth out while Loren (my piercer) was looking for a 14g needle to pierce me with. All he could find was his 12g, so I told him that was fine. and before I knew it, I had it re-done again over the exact same spot. And wow, let me tell you, piercing over scar tissue really hurts! But it was all worth it!
I have had it in for two days now. It still is a little swollen, but it looks great! And here are some pointers on cleaning it, that I have learned:
*Make sure you use a Q-tip with some body soap to clean the piercing 2-3 times a day.
*Clean it in the direction of tightening the ball. Like, clean it to the right in circles to make sure that you don't do what I did, and accidentally unscrew the ball.
*Dilute the Listerine with half water, so that you don't dry out your piercing with such a strong alcohol level.
*Don't use antibiotic ointments such as neosporin, because it holds out the oxygen and prolongs healing.
*And lastly, stay away from hottubs and pools, because the chlorine can dry out the piercing.
