My piercing addiction started one year ago when I decided to get my tongue pierced. It was a rush that I needed and craved too often. Within 5 months of getting my tongue pierced I had acquired barbells and hoops through both nipples, a horizontal clit hood and my tregus. And now...my newest addition...my smiley.

I do plan the piercings that I want, but getting them comes to spontaneity. Two weeks ago I was shopping with two of my girlfriends. We decided that we wanted something new; other than clothes and shoes. My girlfriend Sasha had wanted her nipple pierced for months now, and she finally had the guts to do it. So we left the mall and drove to Art Addictions. She admitted that she was scared and wanted me to get something so she wouldn't be alone. I had no problem with that, seeing as its impossible for me to walk into a piercing parlor without getting a hole poked through me. Looking at the list of piercings, and knowing that I was running out of space on my body, I decided upon a smiley. I wanted my Madonna, tongue web, and the bottom of my belly button pierced as well, but decided to get something that would surprise the others. I don't know anyone that has their smiley; I wanted to be different. I showed my Drivers License, signed the papers, and paid my money. I asked if I was able to have it pierced with a curved barbell because I want to be able to hide it while its healing. I work at a tanning salon, and am meeting new people on a daily basis. I didn't want to freak any new customers out. I plan on having the barbell in during the times that I am working, and a small ring for the times when Im going out. Nik, the piercer, went into the room and set everything up for Sashas nipple and my smiley.
While waiting for everything to be set up, I struck up a conversation with a few of the guys there. Everyone there is so down to earth and willing to talk. I have been pierced there many times, and have never felt uncomfortable at any point. Well, maybe I have, but that's only because I was naked below the belt with my legs wide open, waiting to have a needle shoved through my private parts. Haha.
Nik called us in and Sasha decided that she wanted to go first. I really paid attention to her set up, and the whole procedure in general. Its really interesting. The amount of gloves that they must go through is insane. The whole place is freshly renovated. The piercing room is extremely clean and she made sure to change her gloves a lot. Nik tried to calm my friend down as much as possible. (she tends to freak out whenever she is getting a body mod, although she has 4 tattoos) It went pretty quickly and she was very happy with her new addition.
My turn!! I hopped in the chair really excited for my smiley. I was really curious to find out how everything is done. Its not a very common piercing, and I didn't really know what to expect. Nik had me swish some mouthwash around for 30 seconds and then she put on some numbing jelly. Honestly...the numbing jelly was the worst part. It tasted horrible and I really didn't like that my whole mouth was tingling. She had me hold my top lip up by myself, which I was totally comfortable with. The clamps were on, which really didn't hurt, it was just an awkward feeling. The needle went through in a split second and I didn't feel much pain at all. That adrenaline rush was just what I needed. Now the most annoying part...she slid the barbell through with ease...but screwing the ball onto the end was a bitch. It took a good 2 or 3 minutes. And by this point. My 'web' was a little raw. So much for the numbing cream... it was finally over and done with. I tipped and left. We were all pretty happy with our new additions. I was on cloud 9. I'm already thinking of my next.
Healing wasn't bad at all. In fact, I was expecting worse. My top lip was a tiny bit swollen for a day, but no one other than me could notice. It did feel as though I had food stuck for about a week. But now I hardly even notice that its there. I did the non-alcoholic mouthwash after every time that I ate or drank anything other than water, for 2 weeks. I also bought a battery powered toothbrush for whenever I find plaque in the morning, I heard that it helps to break it up. Personally, I haven't ever had a problem with plaque buildup yet. I plan on changing the jewelry soon, it's healing really quickly.
Overall, getting your smiley pierced is amazing. It really made me feel different. It's a great conversation starter, and its one of those 'little secrets'. Especially with a barbell, not many people know that I have it, and the look on people's faces when I show them is priceless.
Happy hole punchin'!
