Now I wouldn't recommend this for a few reasons to start...self piercing [although I am known to do them, and a friend I have who is a piercer sort of helps me out with placements and what not.] It just isn't safe...with anyway you put it!!!! Second safety pins are very cheep metal...stick it in your moth for a few minutes...you'll understand! And third, the pin was literally spit cleaned. [Scary...maybe for some one else, but I know my body, and every time I've boiled water in a pot and properly sterilized it, it's been infected to the point of not keeping!!!]
I have done 9 of my own piercing. So maybe I should give you some background on my piercings, I have my first holes stretched to 00 [ with a gun at age 7], my second hole in my right ear is a 4 and my second hole in my left is on its way there, and then a regular 18 in my third hole in my left ear, I have a smiley, my most recent my lip [professional], my nose which has now grown over, and twice my fourth hole in my left ear [which is a reoccurring problem with me and I have just given up], and my Horizontal Clitoral Hood and I've tried for my VCH but it's a strange angle for myself and a safety pin to do! Every thing but my first holes and my lip were done by myself with a sowing needle, or a safety pin. [ya I know...HCH and my VCH with a safety pin...but I have already submitted that story to that section.. lol]
So I am sitting on my bathroom counter safety pin in hand and pop...less than a min and the safety pin is through the other side but just barely poking out...so I try and try and try to get it through...It's just not going...so I think... Ok I need some sort of a cork type thing. Then I remember about hearing kids using a slice of an apple...so off to the kitchen. Chopped me up an apple and run back to the bathroom... I was shocked at how fast it went through and how the apple simulated the skin to a tee and you don't even realize just how far the pin has gone though! So I close up the safety pin knowing that nothing else will fit through it at that point! And run downstairs to snap some web cam pics and talk to some friends I know who already have it!
The next day at school I leave the pin in my lip and the taste was sickening. Cheep metal in your mouth is really gross! But it was one day and then I was going to try and change it! So I came home from school and changed it to an old captive ring I had and again just a spit clean! Every thing went well, and for the next few days I cleaned it twice a day with [table] salt water [I had no proper salts and no mouth wash!] and it seemed to be doing fine, although I felt like a Who with all the swelling under my top lip...
A few days later I went to my grandparent's house for the weekend and I had no way to clean it, then finally on the long drive back I caught an opportunity and grabbed some salt packs from a gas station and one of those paper cups and mixed it together in the bathroom, washed my mouth out and every thing felt really good! Then we get back in the car and drive away, and about 15 minutes down the road I taste blood in my mouth, my cousin had told me after he got his lebrette done it bleed periodically, so I wasn't to worried and said nothing. And again when we got home [about 4 hours later] it happened again and then about every hour that night until I went to sleep. When I woke up in the morning every thing seemed better than before, the swelling had gone down a lot, it didn't feel like there was as much pressure. All was good.
On the night I put the captive ring in I was lying on my back talking on the phone and realized that there was a strange squeaking sounds coming from some were, and suddenly I realized it was coming from my teeth!. The metal ball of my smiley was rubbing against my teeth and making that gross sound that the dentist's tools make. So the next day I was off to Sun City, to talk to Jesse about different ball, at first I was hoping for a metallic colored ball, but I wasn't surprised that they didn't have one. So Jesse told me that an acrylic ball wasn't good for a fresh piercing but if I was concerned about the metal one he would be happy to put one in for me. Jesse went to his kit and pulled out a bunch of acrylic ball and asked what color I would like, taking a minute to look over the colors I said "either pink or black" and so it was Jesse put in my new semitransparent pink ball and I was on my way. I returned to school and although I was uneasy about having a colored ball I was reassured by my friends that they actually really liked it! After the ball change I think I head one single squeak from it, and it was no were as bad as before!
I was at a local concert just a few days ago and got a shoulder to the face in the mosh pit [stupid me in the mosh pit with a week old lip ring], and besides the swollen lip, I lost my pretty little pink ball which I am really sad about, I've taken to tucking the metal ball up above my gums so it doesn't hit my teeth, but I assume its doing just as much damage and it would be doing if it were hitting my teeth. I am planning on going back and getting a new one as soon as I can, but I have no clue when that's going to be!
As far as my thoughts about it being easy to rip out...it really isn't, and although I make some really stupid faces, I play with it all the time!
its sorta hard to see because my web cam isnt very good, oh and no my make up doesnt always look like that, it was right before that show that i lost the pink ball.
