Okay, let me just give you some history on this whole thing. When I was 14 I had begged my mother to let me get my eyebrow pierced and because we were moving she felt bad and said yes. I loved it, but it rejected only 6 months later. After that had happened I had vowed to research everything I wanted to get since I had not known anything about piercing before. So when I was about 15 I found a website called BMEzine and began looking for a new piercing. I had always wanted just a regular lip piercing but I came across the beautiful little thing called the Vertical Labret. I phoned around to some shops asking if they could do it for me, and most of them had no experience in the field so I put it off for awhile. I begged my parents to let me get it done, but of course remembering the eyebrow incident, said no. So I waited.

After about three years of waiting I decided that it was my body, and I was going to do what I wanted with it. It had nothing to do with them, and I WANTED IT! Haha. So, I gathered my best friend and together we headed to Black Rose and began our walk up those stairs.

Sheena was sitting there all smiles and asked, "So, you're finally going to do it?" "YES!" I replied and off we went to the back room. She knew exactly what I wanted, because we had talked about it before. Just a small, 16g curved barbell. She showed me how everything was packaged, and new and completely sanitary and happily I nodded my head and off we went. It took her a few times with her marking pen to get the right spot. She asked some of the guys there what they thought and finally on the fourth try we all felt it was just perfect.

She told me to lie down, and then she clamped my lower lip and the needle slipped on through. The pain was very minimal but there was a slight burning feeling. But it was something I could definately live with. She told my friend to stop making me laugh and put the jewelery through which hurt a bit more than the needle did. I blame the threading. I jumped up and ran to the mirror. Beautiful! Just what I wanted.

I went home a few hours later, knowing that my Mom would be home, and not my Dad. Thank god for that. My mom didn't quite notice it until I smiled real big and laughed. She swore at me and told me my Dad was going to kill me. I asked and asked and asked, "But do you like it?" She couldn't help herself and she said, "well yes, and I knew I would." You see, my Mom has a tattoo and she as well went against my Dad and got it done without him knowing. She seems to be a tad more open about these things than my Dad. We both don't really know why, but it seems to be that one parent out of the two is very biased about the whole thing. Afterwards I headed to my boyfriends house and he, too, loved it as well. I knew he would. But the moment I was dreading was coming soon. My dad was going to be home the next morning, as he was working night shift. I woke up, played video games and waited for him to come into the room. He came in, sat right next to me and we chatted and for about five minutes he didn't even seem to notice. It was the weirdest thing. But the moment had come, he noticed and just screamed. He was so angry, and I could tell. He couldn't believe that I had gone against his will. He ranted for awhile and I left the house to seek protection. I knew everything would calm down, sooner or later. I know now, after a few months, he's come to terms with it. He just takes everything so personal.

There was little to no swelling. There was also not much bleeding at all. I didn't even have much trouble with the hard stuff around the piercing. I just kept it very clean and it still looks great!

The aftercare was very simple. Clean with saline daily, swish oral b in mouth over bottom lip (it's a little tricky, I had my fair share of spills on my shirt) and that was about it. No kissing for two weeks, what a bummer that was but totally worth the wait. My piercing is now completely healed and it still looks gorgeous.

I completely recommend it to anyone who wants it done! Good luck everyone.
