So I think that a labret is by far the sexiest piercing. It looks so hot. I have just recently decided that I'd like to have it done, but of course my job wouldn't allow me to do it. I'm gettin ready to leave for school and I quit my job so I thought "What The Hell!" I went to get it done yesterday with my brother, his girlfriend and my mom. The place was closed so I didn't have the opportunity. So this afternoon, I get ready, drive 45 minutes to Bristol, and go into Sacred Ink Tattoo and Piercing.

I felt just a tad uncomfortable when I first got there. Just because that's really not my scene at all. You see, cool people hang out at places like that. And when I try to be cool, it always ends up being really awkward and I feel stupid. So I went in, told them that I was there for a labret, and the guy gave me all my paperwork and made a copy of my driver license. While I waited, I looked through the books of tattoos and even had time to browse a copy of Ripleys Believe It Or Not Encyclopedia of the Bizarre. It was a pretty good read. Eventually, I got called back to the little room where the magic happens. Everything was very clean and sterile. I made sure that they use an autoclave to sterilize all the equipment. The piercer was really cool. His name was Scotty and he had a really cool tattoo of the Ghostbusters on his legs. He washed the outside really well with really strong antibacterial soap. He said it killed about as many germs as bleach, which I thought was funny! He marked the spot where it was going to be pierced, and then he changed it just a little because he said that my lips were not perfectly symmetrical. I looked at it, and he explained why he moved it. Then, he took out the clamp that he would use to hold my lip out. He said that was probably the most uncomfortable part, but it didn't hurt in the least. I was really hyped up at this point and he told me not to move whatever i did. I agreed and he reached for the needle. He started counting 1...Take a deep breath in, I did. 2. hold. and 3...exhale..

When he actually forced the needle through my lip, it didn't hurt at all. I was really surprised that I felt absolutely no pain. Even when he put in the jewelry, still no pain. It was a total rush. Very similar to being on a roller coaster as it rolls upside-down. It was a very intense feeling. I was incredibly surprised that I wasn't feeling any pain. In fact, it still isn't hurting. A little tender, but otherwise it feels fine. Should be completely healed in about 4 weeks. Then I can get a clear retainer to put in, in case the need should arise that I remove it. All things considered, I really enjoyed the experience. It was well worth it. This morning, the day after, its a little tender. Its taking some getting used to as far as eating because you have a piece of metal in your mouth. It hurts WAY less than a canker sore. In fact, it really hasn't hurt at all. I've been rinsing with 1/2 Listerine 1/2 water, and cleaning the outside with diluted Dial antibacterial soap. I thought it was just a little off centre, but the guy told me it is supposed to be like that because my lips aren't perfectly symmetrical. Everyone that has seen it, says it is perfectly centered, so I'm happy with it. I plan on keeping it for a while. When I let it heal up, I will change it a bit and probably even get a clear retainer to put in it because there are some situations where I will need to have it out. Probably only when I am in a play at school, or going for a job interview. The thing I like most about it, is it looks very chic and classy on me. Sometimes it can look a little skanky depending on the person and what kind of jewelry they are wearing. No spikes for me. I just like my simple stainless steel flatback. I may get a glow in the dark bead, or something cool like that for it later. My advice...Think about it long and hard, weigh the risks, choose a good, professional, clean piercing studio, and go for it! It was a great experience for me, and I am very happy that I did it. Plus, my boyfriend really likes it, and he can't wa "\ÃwðO€ it til it heals up!
