It was New Years Eve, and the ending of what had been the crappest year EVER! I definitely deserved to treat myself, so I decided to get a piercing. I had already got my ears, my belly button and my tragus pierced, but I wanted something a little more hardcore.
At A Glance Author Amy When A month ago Studio Adrenaline Location Luton I was at my boyfriends house in Luton I told him I wanted a piercing. He was quite excited and immediately took me down town. We looked round a couple of shops at prices, cleanliness etc and found a shop called adrenaline. It was small, but looked clean and there were lots of photos of past piercing and tattoo jobs. We had been discussing where abouts I should get pierced and finally decided on my labret. So I walked in, quite nervous, but as it was quite spontaneous I hadn't had much time to work myself up. There were two girls sitting on the sofa in front of me talking about the excitement of getting their clits pierced. This obviously made me feel better about getting a little piercing through a bit of face flesh. They were led off and a girl came and asked me what I wanted. She had short hair, a big smile and her labret pierced, which was quite reassuring.
Everything was very straight forward and I explained what I wanted, then me and my boyfriend were led into one of the little piercing rooms. It was very clean and the girl was very welcoming and made me feel very relaxed. After a chat about aftercare, (which was very basic, some saline solution a couple of times a day), she got out some cotton wool and cleaned my lip area.
Now up to this point I had done quite a good job at hiding my nerve-wrecking fear of needles, but she obviously saw the colour in my face disappear as she got out the needle. She laughed and took a look at the flesh tunnel in my ear, which had been stretched to an 11mm. She joked with me that this piercing would be like a tickle compared to stretching my ear, so I felt better. She clamped my lip which was completely painless then got the needle out. I suddenly blurted, 'What about numbing cream??' She laughed again and explained that you can't use numbing cream for mouth piercings, as I could choke on my own spit! No numbing cream, great.
So I was quite scared now, and shaking, as she brought the needle up to my lip. I closed my eyes tightly and squeezed my boyfriend's hand, who was by this time fascinated.
Deep breath.....one....two....OUCH! She pushed the needle through my lip then pulled through the tube, followed by the metal bar. 15 seconds of pain then I had a brand spanking new piercing. Getting the jewellery on the end was a little tricky as it was small and fiddly but finally it was done. White faced and shaking I opened my eyes, to see my new piercing. There it was, a cute little blue spike poking out of my labret. I loved it.
My boyfriend paid for me and I thanked the girl as she gave me the number of the shop so I could come back and get a smaller bar once the swelling had gone down. As we walked home I began to get really excited about the new years party that night. Brand new piercing to show off! And just as I expected, it was a great party! Everyone was very impressed with my lip, and I was very happy as drinking alcohol turned out to be a very un-painful experience!
However, the morning after I felt the soreness, and then for a couple of days after that. It was weird; it wasn't like pain, but more severe uncomfortableness. It was also rather painful to open and shut my mouth to much, which did make eating a rather difficult task. About a week later, when I went and got a smaller bar put in, I noticed a little ring in the inside of my lip, where the bar had worn it away. But when I asked back at adrenaline, she said it was perfectly normal and it wouldn't get any worse. So all of the worry and confusion out of the way, and 2 months later, I have a gorgeous piercing, which I have so many different bars and rings for and I adore it! In fact, I'm so happy with how smoothly my labret piercing went; I'm going to get my septum pierced next weekend!
To anyone thinking about getting their labret pierced, or debating which bit to pierce, I highly recommend labrets, as they're out of the way but still noticeable, there's so much jewelry, and they're so cute! I also recommend adrenaline to anyone in the south-east!
