I got my dimple pierced in the afternoon before a Yellowcard concert. My friend Stina and I were perusing 17th ave in Calgary when we both saw the piercing shop and we went in. This shop is also a clothing store that carries vintage clothes and after browsing the racks we went to the back of the store to look at the piercing jewelry.

We were both contemplating getting something pierced, she wanted her septum and I wanted my cleavage done. The Piercer Jenn warned me against getting it done in the winter because my clothes would rub against it and it would be pretty tender. She also explained about it migrating with clothes hitting it all the time. So I decided to wait until at least spring and get a dimple piercing instead. I had just learned about it and Jenn also had them and it looked really cute. So the decision was made.

Stina and I payed for our piercings and between me actually paying and gawking at the very good looking staff I became very nervous. As we walked into the small room I was starting to second guess this decision. I watched Stina get her septum done first and then it was my turn.

I wasn't very nervous for the piercing because I have a high pain tolerance and also don't mind pain very much. I sat on the table as Jenn gave me a cupful of listerene to clean out my mouth, she says this is the worst part of the whole procedure and I have to say she is definitely right. The listerene just burned my tongue and Oh man it was not fun. When she started to mark my face with the pen. I told her I had second thoughts and was unsure about doing this, but Stina and Jenn both convinced me to do this saying I will regret it later if I don't. Knowing they were right I told her to start the piercing procedure. So she then made me smile and marked where my dimple is and where the piercing was going to be. Content with the placement I was told to lie down on the table while she gave me a choice of what flavour of anbesol I wanted. I chose cherry and of course had to lick it to see how it tasted and pretty soon my tongue went numb with everything else. So as she waited for the freezing to set in she told me to breathe and on the third breath out she would push the needle through. I didn't feel the piercing going in because of the freezing but I did feel it come out a bit, (she went from the inside of my mouth out) and it didn't really hurt at all, only a small sharp pain.

Then it was over and I was actually pleased I had done it. It was just a silver ball and a bit too big for my tastes but she said my cheek would swell so I needed the bigger bar. That night in the mosh pit of the concert I was very scared of getting my face hit or punched or anything so we stood on the sidelines for most of it. Which was a little disappointing but I didn't want my face to hurt. The piercing was quite tender that night though, and it was also hard when I talked because I would sometimes bite on the end of the ball and it would suck in and kind of hurt. I would advise anyone when you are getting this to ask for a flat ended bar. I had a lot of trouble eating for the next day or so with that ball being in my mouth. It was really a pain in the ass as I also had a lot of trouble brushing my teeth as well.

I did end up taking it out the next day, after deciding that I didn't like it. I also didn't want my mom and Grandma to see it, I knew they wouldn't like it. I regret taking it out and if I could do the whole thing over I would have waited a couple more days to make absolute sure I didn't want to keep it, I wish I had just waited for it to heal. It was so sore the next day and that was a consideration in taking it out, I couldn't eat or talk or sleep on that side of my face because it was so sore. Even with all those downsides I am thinking of getting it pierced again but this time making sure it is a flat ended bar, because I think that it wouldn't have been so hard to deal with. I also have other piercings in mind so I might just put the dimple on hold for a couple months or so. All I have to say to anyone considering this piercing is that it is an awesome one to get, really cute on anyone, it doesn't really hurt and to think very carefully before getting it and before taking it out.
