I guess you could say I'm that type of person. I'm the type of person that loves the thrill of piercing herself, as I feel like I gain a new sense of independence and courage. I've pierced myself many times before- my ears (multiple times, but I had to take it out as my parents saw), my eyebrow (had it in for a day but I freaked that my parents would see), my bellybutton (had this one for 3-4 months but then it ripped out, don't ask), my tongue web (still got that one!), and even some pointless surface piercings (can you say infection?)- I guess I just love the pain. I've also stretched my ears up to a 0ga, which I'm pretty proud of.

It was one of those spur of the moment type things. You know, you get possessed and you just *HAVE* to pierce something? That's how I felt last night. I was bored of looking at cloths on hottopic.com, and I had already done as much with my website {http://fracturedsoul.zwap.to} as I possibly could, so I needed something new to do. I remembered looking on bmezine.com and remembered the smiley- quite a unique oral piercing. I decided on this one because I could hide it from my parents (if I had a barbell in), and nobody else at my school had it (much like my tongue web), and I always take pride in being different, so this was surely for me. I grabbed an ice cube, safety pin, my lighter, and a barbell and made my way to the bathroom.

Yes, I admit I iced myself first. Don't get my wrong, I love pain- and as much as I love the taste of blood, I thought if I did bleed it would be kind of inconvenient as the piece of flesh that I was piercing was so akward and small, so I didn't want to risk anything that would distract me from doing it right. So I scalded my safety pin (prolly around 18ga or so) with my lighter to sterilize it, rubbed antiseptic & alcohol on it, and then I was ready to go.

The hardest part was probably even getting in the POSITION to do it. My upper lip is kinda big, so its hard to hold it open and then somehow position the "needle" to even do the piercing. After a few minutes of fidling and fumbling around, I finally got in the position. I aligned my safety pin against the flesh, and got ready to thrust it through...but it just wouldn't go because the safety pin was so big, it kept moving. So I got rid of the safety pin and took one of my keeper earrings from when I got my ears pierced about a year ago. Even though it was much smaller, I must say it was MUCH easier. So I aligned the earring to the flesh and ... THROUGH. It took about a minute to get it all the way through, as it wouldn't really pierce through the last side of the flesh. It kind of hurt, but not as much as you would think. It was more like a brief sting...not really pain, you know? But after that, I put the end back on the earring, washed my mouth with Listerine, and left it in overnight.

When I woke up, my upper gum area was kind of sore because the end of the earring kept scraping against it overnight. But all in all, the piercing was fine. I took it out in the morning, washed my mouth out, and then rubbed a barbell with alcohol and put that it. My hole was already beginning to heal, as it went in with ease. It didn't hurt, either...just akward, but didn't hurt. But, as with time I got used to my tongue web, I will also get used to this.

The hardest part is eating. You just gotta be careful not to swish the food around too much, as my barbell is kind of big (16ga but the balls on the end are kinda big) so when it tugs it kind of hurts. It's only a day later, but I can successfully say that the healing process is going quite well!

Another hard part would be making sure my parents wouldn't see. Right now, they can't really see with the barbell, but I would only wear a hoop if I go out as they could be able to see it when I smile. Changing my jewelry isn't really a big issue though, as the hole doesn't really hurt and I've had plenty of time to get used to it with my tongue web.

I completely recommend this piercing for anyone who wants to try it. It took a bit of effort, but it was painless and totally worth it. Now I just can't wait for the Christmas break to end, as I'll go back to school and show everyone my new piece of independence.

This describes some extremely risky and unsafe techniques. Note also that this type of piercing is very prone to fast rejection.
