If you read my first part of the experience, you'll know that I promised to add a second part about my healing process, I have had my piercing for nearly a week now and I was informed that my piercing would probably be healed after about 10 days so this will be the last instalment of my experience as I feel not only is an experience about the piercing itself, but the healing process as well.

Day 1.

As soon as I paid for my piercing I was happy, I made the 45 minute walk home ringing parents telling them of my new mod and all my friends, I found that for about half an hour I was talking quite weird, maybe this is because I was cautious of my piercing or maybe it had swelled a teeny weeny bit. I found myself looking in mirrors the whole way home and as soon as I got home...on went the Web cam to all my friends! I was cautious of my piercing as it is the first facial piercing I have. Every time I had a drink, cigarette or even the teeniest morsel of food I rinsed usually with oral B dental wash or Listerine. There was no swelling at all and I was extremely happy with it, I believe this is due to the fact I did my research and spent that whole afternoon with either an ice pack wrapped in a tea towel or a bag of frozen peas stuck to my face. I played around with it alot and found that having such a long bar in (this can be changed between 10 to 14 days after the pierci ng) that it often clinked on my teeth while talking or eating. These were both no problem for me although I was worried about opening my mouth too wide. I decided to go down to the pub that night as the swelling was non-existent and watch the football.

Day 2.

I spent the day at home, that morning I woke up and much to my glee, there was still no swelling!! A slight stinging and redness to the area and also a bit of difficulty when brushing my teeth. The new piercing rested happily in my mouth and I felt no discomfort. I went out that night and I was happy to find that all my friends thought it was as beautiful as I did and also that it pulled the boys...majorly

Day 3.

At work today and still no swelling although some slight irritation as I forgot to take my listerine to work so I couldn't rinse my mouth this made me a bit panicky and aware of what was happening. I got home and cleaned it thoroughly, pushed the bar all the way out with my tongue to make sure the bar was cleaned the whole way down.

Day 4.

As anyone who reads my IAM page would know, I suffer from Psoriasis, my Madonna was fine until this morning. The topical cream I use Dovobet, suppresses the skin cells which means I do not have any red marks where I would usually have my psoriasis, I found that as I had been rinsing and cleaning my mouth so often, there was a distinct tell tale sign of psoriasis around the stem of the piercing, which was not there the morning of my piercing as I had used my Dovobet almost religiously the days before, I moisturised and cleaned and the redness has gone away.

Day 5.

Stayed at my cousins house this weekend and saw the family's reaction to it which was good my family is quite relaxed on mods....apart from my dad and grandma that is lol. My baby cousin (we'll let him off though he's only 5 years old...he hasn't developed taste yet) decided he didn't like it and decided to punch me in the face, this resulted in major major major pain and a bit of bleeding, but the pain subsidided within hours and there was still no swelling.

Day 6.

My piercing looks like it has been there for years, there is no redness no abnormalities what so ever but I continue to wash with Listerine (I got through a bottle and a half over these past few days)to help prevention of any infection. I woke up to a few crusties this morning but they were soon exterminated with a handy cotton bud (that's a Q Tip to you guys across the pond) and I was good to go.

Day 7.

Today, all is well and I'll be making my trip to Steel Beauty as soon as I can as I need to get the stem changed, it's irritating my gums and the fact that it keeps banging on my teeth is really annoying me, it hasn't been there for long and I can already feel a slight throbbing on my tooth, my piercing was placed in a way that it wasn't meant to rub on my tooth but I think it may be hitting a nerve on my gum.

To all you guys, happy piercing, I'll try and help with any questions you may have concerning the Madonna piercing and it's aftercare.

As far as I'm concerned, this is a beautiful piercing it is quite low maintenance cleanliness wise as your mouth contains a healing agent called pepdine *I think...whoops* and this helps speed up the healing process.

If you are thinking about going through with this piercing you have nothing to lose, the actual piercing is nearly painless and didn't hurt anywhere near as much as my others have (both tragus, both nipples) so put all our doubts aside and go for it...but look after it!!
