You read the same repetitive story over. A girl/ boy turns 18, and HAS to get their first legal piercing. Even if mother disapproves, it's ok now, since they're a legal adult. All I have to say is, this just so happens to be my story, too!

While working graveyard shift at Arbys, a chick came in off the greyhound, proudly wearing a vertical labret. As a big fan of body modifications, I dropped everything I was doing to gawk at this shiny new discovery. I HAD TO GET ONE! From that point on, it was branded into my mind that I must receive one also.

A lot of my piercings I have done myself. I have 12 holes in my ears. My right ear holds 4 upper cartilage, containing various 16 gauge barbells. Below that are 3 8 gauges. On my left ear is placed 5 adjacent 8 gauges. I also have my eyebrow pierced. This summer it was done with a 14 gauge, but got ripped out during a fight. I greatly missed its presence, so I had one of my good friends, Steven (who is training to be a piercer) do it. He did an awesome job on it. I placed a sweet 16 gauge that was laced with gems.. mmm.. sparkly..

Meanwhile, I was in Boise, so I made a few stops to check out the piercing salons. On my list was New Moon and Nobody's Hero. I've hear a lot of positive feedback coming from Nobody's Hero, so that was the top of my list. The guys in there are really cool. New Moon was constantly advertised over the radio, so it was a place to consider. They offer a wide array of body jewelry, yet I've never heard of anyone's experiences with them.

My dear sweet mother accepted my piercings and even found my eyebrow to be agreeable. However, she did not like the thought of me piercing my lip. With an effort to bribe me not to do it, she was determined, as was I. Usually I would take up an offer involving money, but this time it was serious.

My birthday finally rolls around. I'm 18! My first stop of course is Nobody's Hero. Unfortunately, the piercer is out for the day. I can't wait for tomorrow, I have to do this ON my birthday.. The next stop is New Moon. The guys in there seemed really unsocial and inimicable. Why would I want to get it done in such an atmosphere!? Then I remembered a friendly studio downtown, in which I had previously visited.

John was behind the counter as usual, and greeted me with a big smile as I walked in. He remembered me from the month prior and was aware of what I wanted to get done, my vertical labret. While picking out the jewelry, I was hoping for something not as obtrusive, to where it detracts from my face. I picked a simple barbell with clear balls.

Sitting in the chair, I remembered someone telling me that the clamps were the worst part. John put the clamps on my lips, my initial response was 'this isn't too bad'. All of a sudden, I felt the metal clench my lip. It did hurt as though someone had bit it, however, not as bad as what I was expecting. I felt the prick of the sharp tip. The metal heated up my lip as the metal slid through.

The jewelry being threaded actually felt really good. The cool texture sliding in was very soothing. Upon getting to the end hole, with the barbell being curved, John slightly missed the exiting while inserting the jewelry. The barbell is in place, the ball is being screwed on. What a moment of glory.

My friend Justin was the one who had taken me over there, and as a result, he got his labret pierced as well. Upon receiving the jewelry into his skin, quite a lot of blood was expelled. I'm thankful that mine hadn't bled during the process.

While looking at the remaining jewelry in the case, I fell in love with a particular blue barbell. After taking it out to further inspect it, I had discovered it was glow in the dark!! I simply LOVE glow in the dark! A great portion of my earrings contain glow in the dark. I asked the price of this beauty, only to receive instructions to take it for free, after all, it was my birthday.

What can I say, I love the piercing. John did an awesome job on it, and as a bonus, he hooked me up with extras. I would definitely recommend him to my friends or anyone in the Boise area, not only for his quality, but for his sincere welcoming atmosphere and polite friendly manners.

As for my piercing, the day after it was swollen and sore to the touch. Thankfully, the barbell was slightly longer than what I thought necessary, since the swelling took up that extra space. Drinking and eating has become a slight challenge. While eating, it feels as if all the food is sinking into the top hole. Drinking is difficult, but with my quick thinking, I borrowed a huge handful of straws from Jack in the Box. It's been a week now, the swelling's gone down, and bite size food rocks!

Listerine has been a great companion to me. Kissing is unacceptable for another 6 weeks, but it does make it a lot more fun. Can't kiss and tell, so shh... I don't have much more to say other then YAY!!!!
