When I first decided to get a piercing, I was just going to get a regular labret. I was having a hard enough time convincing my mom of just getting that done so I did not think of asking for anything more noticeable. But then one day when I was looking at the BME site I saw the vertical labret. I loved it! I couldn't think of anything better than getting that done. I begged and begged my mom and finally she said yes. That's all I could think for the next few weeks, but I knew I'd have to wait since it was going to be a Christmas gift.

I was a little nervous throughout the day. I had to wait til my mom got home so I had all day to worry about it. When the time came we went and picked my friend up (I didn't want to be alone), and drove to the piercing studio. When we got there Adam took me right back to the room. He cleaned up my lip and marked where it would be done, then had me lay back on the table. He got the needle ready and in place, then right when he was about to pierce my lip, I started getting extremely scared and my legs flew up in the air and I couldn't stop moving. I must admit, I was being a pansy. I made him stop. I couldn't go through with it! I was telling him to count to three and then I would do it, but when he would get to three I would tell him not to do it. I was so nervous about the pain and I thought it was going to hurt really bad. I could not believe that I freaked out so bad. With all of the piercings I have, this was the onl y one that I acted this way when getting. I sat there for what seemed like forever but was probably only like five minutes while everyone tried to convince me it was ok and that it would only hurt for a second. I finally laid back down and took my friends hand so I could squeeze it took and deep breath in, and when I exhaled he pushed it through. It didn't even hurt! I had read the experiences on BME and everyone who wrote about getting a vertical labret said that it hurt and would be sore. It was different for me. It didn't hurt when he pierced it and it did not
hurt afterwards, I couldn't even feel it in my lip. I sat there for a few minutes with the needle in my lip, I didn't want to look in the mirror until he put the jewelry in. I sat there still squeezing my friends hand thinking that it was going to hurt in a second whenever he put the jewelry in. After a minute or two he put the curved barbell in. He tried a shorter one to see if it would work, but my lip had already began to swell, so he gave me a barbell that was a little longer for free. He put it in and had me lay there for another minute. He then handed me the mirror and right when I saw it I fell in love. It was perfectly straight and exactly where I wanted it. I would go back to him for any further piercings.
That night since I wasn't in pain, I decided to go out with some friends to a local hang out. All of my friends were there and they all gave me positive feedback from it.
I thought it might have bothered me after a little while but still I didn't have any pain. The only problem I had was that after every cigarette and drink I had to go wash it. The next day it only hurt when I accidentally touched it hard or hit it, which I tried not to do. From then on I have not had any problems with it and its already healed. The regular healing time is three weeks, and for me it has been a little less than two. I still have to clean it all the time though. Adam said I would only have to clean it two times a day but I cleaned it more than that because during the first week it got really nasty.
Everywhere I go now I get comments about it, and everyone loves it. Everyone asks me how it feels to kiss with it and if it gets in the way, but it really doesn't. Im so happy that I got this done and it has now become my favorite piercing.
