Well I've always like piercing. I think that they are beautiful and an interesting form of self expression. I currently have 17 piercing 15 in my ears ( I have 00's 14 gauge Industrial, 6 gauge cartilage, 10 gauge horse shoes,14 gauge horse shoes, 16 gauge horse shoes, my Labret, and my Monroe. Well about 6 or 7 months after piercing my lip my hunger to do another piercing grew. But I didn't know which was to be the next.

I looked around on BME (which is a great site by the way!) and I saw the madonna/monore pictures. They were very helpful in my decision because I saw different positions of Monroes. After looking through all of the piercing pages I choose the Madonna. I really liked it and thought that it would complement my facial features. So after some thought I decided that I wanted to do it. I asked my mom on what her opinion was of it she really didn't mind and thought it would look good as well but, my dad on the other hand really didn't want me to do it and was strongly against it. Since I still live at home I can't be too rebellious because I would still like a place to sleep. In North Carolina you cannot get a piercing with out parental permission and since my dad didn't want me to have it my mom couldn't go against his word so I had no choice but to do it myself.

So a few months went by and I still really wanted it so I just decided to do it anyways to hell with what my dad thought. I went with my friend to South Carolina and had someone else buy my 16 gauge hollow piercing needle because I wasn't 18. Well I got the needle I came home and surfed the net looking for risks of Monroe piercing. I looked in the BME risks section, which was very helpful and informational. After I figured out all that I needed to know I pierced it in the position I thought looked the best and what would not cause me any irritation. I then cleaned the needle I got, swished with Listerine, and cleaned the outside area with bactine. I pierced the spot and put in the 16 gauge labret jewelry.

That night it didn't swell and it looked really good. When I woke up the next morning it looked like I got hit in the lip. It was pretty swollen. I thought that I had long enough jewelry that I wouldn't experience any pinching or discomfort but it swelled more then expected. The jewelry was too short and pinched my lip. I iced my lip a good bit and after 3 days the swelling went down a lot. Around the outside where the ball was there was a little cut from where it had been pinching but, after a few days that went away. For a while it was slightly infected but not to the point to where I would have to take it out and for a few days it was slightly red.

After it was all healed up I fell in love with it, I think it is my favorite piercing out of all the ones that I have. It doesn't rub my gums or hit my teeth so I don't have to worry about gum recession or teeth chipping. I am very pleased with it. I have now had it for almost 4 months and I like it more and more as the days go by. It has become a part of my body and without it I feel like I wouldn't look right.

I suggest a monore/maddona to anyone. It is an easy piercing to take care of and is relatively painless (just a little sting is all!) Just make sure u keep it healthy and clean it like you are told to. Warm salt gargles really make it heal better. Sure it is nasty but well worth it. It makes the healing time shorter in most cases. Bactine also works very well. It has a numbing agent in it so if you are experiencing any discomfort or soreness I suggest using it. You can get it from most drug stores like Wallgreens ,CVS , and they even have it at Walmart. Don't use alcohol or Peroxide they are to harsh and will make your piercing take longer to heal. With lip piercing you can use Listerine to gargle with but dilute it with water because it will also be too harsh to use alone.

I think that they next piercing that I am going to do is my tragus and I want a Double Navel so if anyone reads this and has had there's done if there is any advice you have, feel free to IM me (xangryprotesterx) but make sure tell me that you saw me off this site.

Be Safe and Enjoy piercing!
