This piercing experience just happened this afternoon. About eight hours ago.

I first got into the monroe piercing a few months ago when I was looking around on this site. I wanted something that I knew not a lot of people where I live would have. I went looking through all the lip and cheek piercings (because that's the area I wanted done) and I noticed the Monroe. As soon as I asked my mother about it, she immediately said no. She's never really been fond of facial piercings. I tried to convince her for quite a while that I really wanted this piercing, but she just assumed it was a "phase". Last week when we went out to eat at a restaurant, we saw a girl with this piercing. The stud on her's was really small. We asked her about where she got it done and when as well. That girl basically convinced my mom to let me get it done. As soon as we got home, we talked about me getting it as my main Christmas present. She agreed. When we got home that night, we looked around for places to get the piercing done. We chose this place in Worcester, MA called the Piercing Emporium. We told them the piercing I wanted and the time I'd be there.
Last night, I read several stories about this piercing. Most of them sounded bad. I read about a lot of pain, immediate swelling, and bleeding. It got we worried about what would happen. I talked it out with my mom and spent all night thinking about it to make sure it was really what I wanted to do. I figured it was a now or never situation.
Since I'm only fourteen years old, I had to bring my mother along with me to the studio. I also brought a friend for support. This tends to help, haha.
When I arrived at the Piercing Emporium (the studio I was to get my piercing done at), I was immediately asked to choose the jewelry that would be put in. My options were a 16g and a 14g. The 14g looked too big for me to start out with, so I chose the 16g. I chose the stud to add onto that and another for once it would heal. My mother's ID was photo copied and I had to fill out a little ten question or so survey thing. Not bad.
I was then led back into a small room and was asked to sit down on a table that was kind of like one you'd see in a doctor's office. The piercer came in and recited some speech he apparently had memorized. He sounded like he knew what he was talking about (not to mention he had several piercings himself), so I figured he was very experienced in piercing.
He made me swish mouth wash in my mouth for a little while and spit it out back into the cup. He took a sharpie and marked where I'd get it. He cleaned the area and clamped my top lip. He told me to swallow, relax, and let him "do all the work". Very quickly and almost painfully he inserted the needle. He told me not to move and got the jewelry. This part hurt a bit more than the actual piercing, but not much. It was like a small pinch and only lasted a second or two. Having him screw on the stud part and the flat back was the only long process. It took about a minute. It must have been hard for him to do it with rubber gloves on, so that's probably why it took so long.
When everything was all done with, I was handed a little bag of mouthwash, soap, and a brochure on how to clean, etc. The guy asked me if I had any questions about the healing process. I only felt the need to ask about the swelling, haha.
Overall, this piercing process was a very easy one. The pain was minimal and the piercer was really friendly. Plus, it made it a lot more comfortable knowing that he had given piercings to people several times before....
Since I just got it done a few hours ago, the only problem I'm having is eating. You kind of have to get used to opening your mouth wide. It's hard to chew because your moth hurts a bit when you move it up and down, but other than that nothing else is really a problem. That's for me, at least.
I definitely recommend you get this piercing if you're considering it. I went in thinking it was going to hurt a hell of a lot, but in the end I was very satisfied with the process.
