I had been toying with the idea of getting a piercing for about 6 months before I actually got my first non-ear piercing done. I had seen everyone with their eyebrow/labret/tongue pierced and I just wanted something different. My friend Rose was the same way and went and did her own monroe in her bedroom (not recommended even though it healed beautifully!!). I thought it was the coolest piercing I had seen. I talked to my mom about getting a monroe and she wasn't too fond of the whole idea. She told me "Your old enough to make the right decisions. Let's just make sure you do the right thing."

It was January and I was staying with my cousin for a few days at her house. We were bored one night and the idea of getting a monroe popped in my head so I said "Let's go get pierced!" She said ok but I knew she wouldn't get anything done. I called the shop to make sure somebody was there that could do the piercing for me. After I got the affirmative, we were on our merry way. As soon as we got there, we were greeted by my piercer, Pete. I had a lot of questions and he had a lot of answers.
After deciding the piece of jewelry I wanted to be put in, he escorted my cousin and I through a little walk way to the back room. There, he motioned for me to sit in the chair. My cousin followed close behind (chicken). He gave me a stuffed animal "in case I got nervous." I gave it to my cousin. She needed it more than me.
He made me rinse my mouth out with Listerine for 60 seconds. I thought I was going to die! Honestly, that was the only painful part, and it wasn't even that bad! After spitting the Listerine out, he studied my face and marked it perfectly. I was happy, my cousin was happy, we were all happy. He then went on to tell me about autoclave goodness and sterility. Good stuff. With gloved hands, he clamped my lip and proceeded to thrust a sharp piece of cold, hollowed out metal through it. To my surprise, it didn't hurt at all. I must admit, it was trippy to see a needle sticking out of my lip.
He then attempted (key word: attempted) to slip the jewelry through the needle. Much to my disadvantage his fingers slipped, as did the needle. So now I'm sitting there, looking like a drooling fool with an itty-bitty hole in my lip, trickling down blood. My cousin couldn't stop laughing at me. Pete was extremely remorseful. I am full of love so I was cool with it. He tried again (with a clean needle!) on a lower spot. My cousin said that when he pierced my lip the second time, blood just started squirting out of the first hole like a little fountain. That would have been crazy to see!
Again, he was having hand-eye coordination problems. So the boss made her way to me and took care of my little situation. After it was done, Pete then proceeds to tell me that I was his first monroe and he was supposed to have somebody there to help him since he had never done one before. He said that he got a little too over-zealous and thought he could do it alone. I didn't really mind because I got what I wanted. Sure it's a little lower than previously anticipated, but that just means it unique like me! My cousin hates Pete now for some ungodly reason. I love him. Love him so much that I went back and got orbitals done by him.
As we were driving home, my cousin looked over at me and said "I honestly didn't think you were going to go through with it. I thought you would back out or something." What foolish thinking... The next day, I called my mom at work to let her know what happened. She kept on telling me that she thought I would have made the right decision. In my head, I did. When she actually saw me a day later, she warmed up to it. She said she thought it was going to be this big ball on my face (only at night mother...hehe just joking). My grandma saw it and just shook her head. You got to love older traditional mexicans. Oh yeah, a month later, I somehow got my cousin over there and talked her into getting her right nipple pierced. By Pete. I know I know, I'm good. So now we're boob-buddies since I got both of my nipples done.
A few months ago, I saw my old buddy Rose. She saw the monroe and greatly approved. I'm still rocking the little diamond stud and getting compliments for such a "lovely piercing." I must say it's one of my favorites and I highly recommend it to everyone out there!!!!
