I had wanted this piercing for months and after seeing some people have it done I had to have it. It was so feminine and pretty. Since im only 16, I needed my Mums permission. One day we were driving home from the shopping centre, I asked her because she was in one of those I do not care moods, im to tired. I quietly asked can I get my Monroe done? Followed by a whining Plleeeaaasssee.To my surprise, she said yes and that we could go and make an appointment. If there wasn't a back on the car seat, I think I would be on the floor. Well at least in happiness.
So we drove down to tower tattooing and body piercing studio in Brisbane. I spoke to a nice woman at the counter, I told her I wanted an appointment for a Monroe piercing she said that they could do It right away. Therefore, mum and I signed all the papers and a man came out, introduced himself, took a 14g flat back labret stud from the cabinet, he said he would be a few minutes because he had to set everything up. Therefore, we had convocation with the woman at the counter and another client waiting, for a ring change, she also had a Monroe and we spoke. And I asked the million dollar question, did it hurt? Well it didn't matter if she told me it hurt a lot I was still going to get it pierced. She said it was nearly painless. I was happy with that.
The man (I did not quite get his name), called me in, I washed my mouth out with disgusting yellow Listerine. I sat down nervously with butterflies twisting in my stomach; I sat on a long black padded bed like bench. He turned on the lamp and studied my face; I couldn't stop nervously giggling about it at the time, which caused him to start laughing as well, Then he asked what side I wanted it placed on, I was a little slow answering him because I truly didn't have a clue, I never thought about it and since my best friend had her's on the left I said I wanted it on the right side of my lip, he made a dot and I took a look and I said it looked good. He changed his gloves then He then clamped my lip, which did not hurt at all. Then slowly, he took the needle out and asked if I felt ok and if I was ready. I nodded my head thinking it's now or never.
I closed my eyes as He slowly pushed the needle through from the top of my lip to the inside of my lip. Im not going to lie the first push was pure hell and my eyes watered a little,. Once he pierced the top layer of my skin, my lip suddenly went kind of numb. The rest just slid through. He pulled the needle out and left the plastic tubing in, and I felt a lot of tightness in my lip and then he slowly but surely cut the ends with scissors and removed the clamps. he got the labret stud ready, he kindly informed me and said this might hurt maybe more then the piercing itself. And as he pushed the stud into the end of the plastic tubing, he gently pulled the plastic out. After that, he placed his finger inside my lip to hold the labret stud in place and he screwed on the ball. He then tightened it with some surgical pliers. It really felt like a hard pinch putting the jewelry in to describe it best. I don't really think I was fully prepared for the discomfort and that's all it was discomfort .But I could handle it and so could you it seriously wasn't that intense overall. Trust me!!!
I slowly stood myself up, I was in shock that I had just done it, I wanted to scream and jump but I think he would have though I was drugs or something. He handed me some Listerine AGAIN washed my mouth out as he explained the after care. Then I slowly walked over to the mirror on the wall I looked into the mirror and I saw my reflection and I fell in love with my new silver Monroe. I so badly wanted to smile but it hurt a little to move my mouth. I said thank you and walked out.
My mum just smiled, I said what do you think? She shook her head and went on about how someone could do that to himself or herself! (How embarrassing) I paid and left happily day dreaming bout seeing the faces of my shocked friends who thought that I would not end up going through with it.
It swelled a lot for about three days or even maybe more, I could not really eat much because the back of the stud got caught on my teeth, I couldn't wait until I could eat properly again I waited and waited. Finally After about four days, I knew something was wrong. The pain didn't subside and it just kept bleeding and the ball was slowly being eaten by my lip. I rang the studio where I got it done and mum drove me down there saying I was just paranoid. I walked in and he greeted me and took a look and loudly spoke some obsanities. He said that the stud was way too short. So he sat me down again and opened up a new stud, took the old one out, and immediately it was pure heaven. The pain went that blood stopped. Now its great and I love it! It is totally healed up well nearly is.
I have a major habit of playing with it when im bored. I do get a few looks in public probably because it is somewhat an unusual type of piercing I suppose. However, if you want this done go for it. I would do it again if I had to but I hope not in the near future. It is totally worth it. I was so freaked out; I think the anxiety before hand is a lot worse then the actual piercing.
