I was 15 when I got my first mod. I begged my parents to let me get my nostril pierced. I was hooked, but my parents said that's it with piercing, but over the next while I started wearing them away at it. I wanted more and I planned on getting some. The urge mellowed out a bit over the next 3 years. I began looking at bmezine.com and looking at all the different piercings. When I saw a Monroe piercing for the first time I fell in love. I have been idolizing Marilyn Monroe since I was little so I thought that piercing was perfect for me. I started asking my parents about 8 months before I was actually given permission. My mom was all right with it from the start, but my dad was right against it. He kept saying oral piercings aren't sanitary and they look gross. So I gave up on asking him and kept looking at the pictures and dreaming. Then finally on July 26 I talked them into it. I was to go spend 4 days in cranbrook with my cousins, so I thought that would be a perfect time to get it done seeing as I have gone to Dan before for my navel piercing, so I knew I could trust him. I called the day before and asked the costs, and made an appointment for 11:30 the next morning. I was so excited! My two cousins promised they would come watch and they were just as excited for me. So I went to bed very content as I was going to get a new metal beauty mark the next day.

I got up and I was so giddy! I skipped around getting ready, and then we set off to Hemp 2000. From the other experiences I have read about monroe piercings they all seemed pretty nervous. I can't say I was nervous at all. I was all smiles. Dan welcomed us and gave me the waver to read and the papers to sign, even though I was 5 days short of being 18,he made my older cousin sign for me. He led us into the small piercing room, Dan got me to sit on the bed thing while he explained to me what he would be doing. He gave me the option of 14 or 16 gauge. I chose 16 so it wouldn't be as noticeable. He grabbed a labret stud that looked WAY too long, but he told me that it needs to be longer so just incase it swells up. I then had to gargle with Listerine and he put on some gloves and cleaned the area that would be pierced with green soap, then iodine then green soap again. He then changed his gloves again and marked up the area. I didn't really like where he first placed it so he removed the marking and moved it over about 4 mm and I loved the placement. Dan then got the clamps and the needles and jewelry already to go. I then had to lie down and wait. Dan noticed my one cousin was looking green so he made her go out and wait in the shop part. My cousin Mandy was equipped with my camera and ready to take pictures of the process. I still didn't feel nervous at all. He explained everything he was doing even when he moved the tray thing, I found that comforting. I felt the clamps go on and then he folded my lip up. That felt very uncomfortable, he then told me to close my eyes and that was it I felt the slight pressure of the needle go through the skin and him saying, "you're done!" all he had to do was wipe up the little bit of blood and the one tear that escaped my eye. I then got to sit up and look in the mirror, that was it I fell in love! Dan took a picture for his wall of piercings and then my cousin took one for me. He gave me a quick run throug h of the after care. I paid for it then left a very happy girl!

I had a bit of a problem eating the first day; I cleaned it twice a day for the first week with Listerine and then with salt water on the outside. I can't say I have cleaned it everyday and that I have never sat and played with it, because I have. I don't recommend it. Although I haven't had an infection yet and it seems to be healed. I've had the barbell changed twice now so it's a little shorter, but I need to get it done one more time so it fits nicely against my lip.

So far I haven't had a problem! I love just sitting and looking at it. This piercing makes me feel sexier and a little bit rocker!
