I have been afraid of needles ever since I was a little girl and my parents locked me in the doctors office when it was time to get a flu shot!
So I'm 17 years old, still afraid of needles, I mean I cried when I got my ears pierced when I was 15! but thats another story!
I already have two tattoo's so my fear of needles *well, lets just say sharp things* was getting a bit smaller, but majority of my friends are into piercings, and I was seeing them all get their tongue done and I wanted it! I wanted to get it done for so long, but I was just too scared, so by the time I had the guts - everyone had one!
So I started thinking of other things to get done, that no one I knew had yet, and I thought 'hey the labret piercing looks pretty cool' and I thought it was different, and you don't see them all that often, so I hopped on to bmezine and read up on all the stories... when I was 14 I remember I wanted my lip pierced because I was in that blink 182 phase and I thought it would be cool, but I was turned off the whole ring idea when I saw a really bad looking one out shopping one day, at that time, I did not even think the labret piercing existed!
This was pretty spur of the moment, as are most things with me, my 1st tattoo was a walk in idea, because if I plan them, I freak out, so I thought i'll look in to this piercing and see if it apparently hurts more then the tongue because I have been hearing horror stories from my friends!
So I looked at heaps of stories, they all said the same thing 'hurts a little - just like a pinch' so I accepted the fact it would hurt and planned to go the next day!
I woke up, not nervous oddly enough but I got into the car and I got a little scared, so when we walked into the piercing shop, I was really nervous, but I told everyone I was going to get it done, so I could not back out of it! I went out the back into a room with the lady who was piercing it and sat on the chair, she told me to lie on it, because it would be easier for her to do it that way, so I laid down, and told her I was going to shut my eyes, and without warning - she did it, and it did not really hurt, probably because I was imagining it to be a fair bit worse, and the bar was in and I was done!
Then I had a bit of trouble when I got home, I have had no problems with pain or aching so far, but the ball on the end of the bar came off twice on the first day! and the second time, I lost it, so I walked to my friends place at 11:30 at night *coz it fell off when I got home from a party* so I walked to her place, (mid-winter, wearing fluffy pink slippers 2 km walk!)
I thought she would have a spare ball, but her unused tongue ball would not fit because my bar was a smaller size so in the end I just stuck a piece of bandaid around the end of it so it would not fall off in my sleep, and the next day I was back at the shop, and I have the new ball on, and its great now! has not fallen off once!
Besides it being a little long still and it being hard to eat big bites *coz the bar gets caught behind my teeth* I have not had any pain or discomfort whatsoever! i've been mouth washing after I eat anything and using salt water rinse and cleaning my teeth more religiously then ever! I want to do everything by the book! i've had some friends that have not looked after their piercings and they can get really nasty looking!
So all in all I'm loving it, and I can't wait until I can get the shorter bar and muck around with different looks on the ends! :)
Remember, if friends and people tell you not to do it, or that it will look stupid, still go for it, if its what you want! I have a couple of friends that are really against it, but they don't have any piercings, I just think some people don't accept it because they just don't have the guts to do it themselves, but a lot of friends think it looks great! so go for it and Good Luck!!!!
