I can remember wanting my cheeks done for as long as I can remember. Around the same time I decided to get my septum pierced, when I was 16.

When I had finally decided to get my cheeks pierced,I called and made the appointment to get them done at Soul Survivor in Winnipeg in mid June. I was excited that everything was finally under way.

It was going to take awhile for my appointment to be set and for the actual piercings to take place, because my barbells were custom ordered, and I had to wait for them to come in.

When the day of my appointment finally came, I was over joyed, but extremely nervous at the same time. I was anticipating a lot of pain, because of the location of the piercings, and thought that there was going to be a lot of bleeding, which added even more to my anxiety and anticipation. I was also worried about the possibility of having permanent dimples if I ever decided to take my cheek piercings out. I asked my piercer if this was likely, but he said probably not, because they were only 14 gauge, and would be more likely if they were being pierced at a larger gauge.

I was very comfortable with my piercer, because I had gotten the majority of my work done by him, and decided I was going to trust him to do my cheeks.

It took a couple of minutes to determine how high or low I wanted them to be. I also needed to worry about having everything symmetrical, since I had 2 monroes on either side, and misplacing the piercings might throw my face off kilter. My monroes were pierced a little bit crooked anyhow, since I had them done at a less reputable shop in Winnipeg by an apprentice who hadn't the slightest idea what they were doing, so my cheeks needed to be a little off to accomodate this mistake.

After I was finally pleased with the placement, and they seemed to be symmetrical, we had a third person look at them, to make sure they looked right.

Then he put the clamps on my left cheek, and pierced it at a 14 gauge. It wasn't even half as bad as I thought it would be. My cheeks are rather thick, and I thought the pain was going to be unbearable. It was an almost enjoyable feeling, since there was no pain at all, and it tickled a little bit.

After he put the jewelry in, he did the other cheek, just as easily as the other one. There was also no bleeding, which surprised me even more than the piercings being painless.

When everything was done, he gave me the aftercare sheet, and some benadine, he told me that he would leave extra barbells at the front desk since he wasn't going to be at the studio, incase the swelling was too much, or I needed longer or shorter jewelry.

When I was done, I had to go to work, and since I work with phones, the majority of work wasn't fun at all, and I ended up having to leave early, because my face was so sore and tender.

The next day, and 3 following days, my cheeks were swollen so bad, the jewelry was almost lost in my cheek. I thought they were going to grow over for sure, and I kept on having to push the jewelry out of my cheek, and remember to do so while I was awake, or if I woke up in the middle of the night. (my boyfriends have grown into his cheeks, making them permanent!), I didn't want this happening to mine ).

It hurt to eat anything, to smile, talk, and it didn't help that everyone kept on trying to make me laugh on purpose.

The barbells were an inch long, and accomodated for most of the swelling. I drank some chamomile tea, and took extra strength midol, then cleaned them really well 3 times a day, and also after eating.

They were extremely sensitive piercings, and anytime I touched them (I had to) they would get extremely angry.

On the 4th day, the swelling had gone down a great amount. Thank god. I was thinking about taking them out for a couple of days, because they seemed to be more work than they were worth, but in the end I'm glad I didn't.

They are by far my favorite piercings. I reccommend these to anyone who is thinking about getting them done, don't be a wimp. They hurt much less than getting a labret or tongue pierced, and the bleeding will most likely be minimal.

Overall, it was an excellent and pleasant experience. I almost wish I could do it again, or have the face for multiple cheek piercings
