I have always been interested in body modification and love getting piercings. I currently have 10 piercings and one tattoo. Around two years ago I decided that I wanted a new piercing but wasn't sure what to get done, so after looking on various sites and reading about peoples experiences on here I decided that I really like the look of madonna piercings and so I decided to get it done. I asked my mother if it was ok, she wasn't really that keen on the idea (apparently if were supposed to have abnormal holes in our bodies then we would've been born with them), but she eventually came around to the idea and agreed to let me have it done as long as "you don't come running to me when it goes wrong and gets infected".
At A Glance Author asphyxia Contact asphyxia@bme.anon When Two years ago Artist kerry Studio toxic shock Location birmingham After a few months (yes I am very indecisive) I went into Birmingham with two friends (who were also getting piercings) and popped into Toxic Shock, I asked how much a madonna piercing would cost (20 pounds) and I also asked a few questions about the procedure, healing and aftercare. I was satisfied with the answers and the studio was clean, sterile and well presented and organised so I said that I would like it pierced, so I chose the jewellery which was a 1.6mm 14g silver labret bar with a pink crystal set into the ball. I then had to fill out a form with all my details, after I handed it back to the piercer, paid my money and then I was ready to get pierced.
I went into the room and sat down on the bed, Kerry (the piercer) asked which sided I wanted pierced and I said the right side so wiped my lip clean with antiseptic and marked a dot with a pen, she asked me to look in the mirror and check the spot to see if I liked it or not, I agreed that it was the perfect position for my madonna piercing so she took out the clamps and clamped my lip into position, using a sterile needle to pierced my lip from the outside (she did not freeze my lip for this piercing as I had previously had an allergic reaction to the stuff they use), I hardly felt anything, just a little pinch and my one eye watered a little, but nothing major. Kerry then placed the jewellery in my madonna and once again I only felt a little pinch and she screwed the ball on tightly.
So my new piercing was done, it had only taken a few seconds and had hardly hurt, I looked in the mirror said that I loved it. Kerry talked me through the aftercare and gave me an information sheet and told me to call her if I had any problems with it and to go back in a week to have the jewellery changed to a smaller bar.
My lip was a bit red and swollen for approx 3 days afterwards but it wasn't huge or anything, I took ibuprofen to help take the swelling down and used ice on the first day. It didn't bleed at all. I used salt water to clean it with twice a day and I brushed my teeth after eating to keep it clean, the last thing I wanted was an infected piercing (we all know how nasty and painful infected piercings can be!). So I looked after the piercing very carefully for the week after it was pierced, it was a bit uncomfortable once the swelling went down as the bar was very long (Necessary to accommodate the swelling) and stuck out alot. S after the week was up I went back to Toxic Shock and got the bar changed to a smaller sized one, it was much more comfortable and looked better too.
I am so pleased with my madonna piercing and I love it to bits, it is my favourite piercing by far. I haven't had any problems with the piercing since I had it pierced, occasionally it catches on my teeth but that's nothing major. It healed very well and quickly and looks great, it's so feminine and cute, I would recommend a madonna piercing to anyone who is considering getting it done. It hardly hurts and its easy to look after, well worth the money I think :)
If you are in the Birmingham area then i recommend using Toxic Shock for piercings, they are very friendly and helpful and they are all very good at what they do and will answer any questions you have got. They also sell a wide range of jewellery at very good prices too.
thanks for reading about my piercing experience, hope it helps people considering this piercing to make a decision.
