Let me first start out by saying I had my lip scalpeled a month after I turned 18, I am currently 19 now. So it has been sometime. My lip piercing was short lived due to the jewelry being small in length. What I needed was a 5/8 length and I got a small plug. In this story you will read my expierence turned bad. Im not saying its the piercers fault, because these things do happen. I do however believe it was an honest mistake on both our parts due to him doing it with shorter plug and risking it and me accepting the risk and wanting it then and now.

This spurs from my childhood, among wanting my penis and testicles removed at such a young age (Yes you heard correctly) I also became fascinated with African tribal culture. I admired the Large earlobes, The large septums and the very large lip disk! I read that some tribes stretched their lips to such great lengths to scare off slave owners and traders from getting them. This soon turned into a social thing and people started doing it commonly. For the women it was a sign of beauty. I myself became attracted to it, I admit. As I matured and found BME I noticed Lip piercing, more commonly the labret piercing was well known in the states. Most people had 14, 12 and 10 gauge labrets. I even seen some in person. But I also saw some large labrets, One was on a very well known Practioner Named Blair! I also saw one where Tom Brazda of stainless studios in toronto did! Very nice! Even thou it wasn't as large as the ones I seen in african tribes, It was big enough to make me droo l and desire it.

Back then I spoke to several of the local piercers, They recommended I get it pierced then stretch up to my desired gauge. But when I spoke to them about how I have seen people scalpel them large, they were horrified and never heard of it. I wanted a labret, so I went to a local piercer and had it pierced at 14 gauge. My intention was to heal it then stretch. But after the procedure I noticed it was done crooked. This consumed me and everyday it bothered me. I tried to not let it bother me but it did. After a month, I could not take it anymore and took it out. I felt much better. If I want a labret, I want it straight you know. So anyway, I was 15 then. I continued to study BME and read expierences about lip piercings. Nothing came in until I was 17, almost 18. I heard about a Shop 50 miles from me that had done a scalpeled labret with no problems and I even met the person who had it. I found out this shop was apart of APP and very sterile and clean as well as friendly an d great.

I started going to the shop for piercings and I came out very happy and I enjoyed it very much. Then the day came when I had the guts to ask if he would scalpel my lip. We spoke about it on and off and he said "Sure!" I was overly excited. We spoke about what gauge I wanted, I said quickly I wanted 00! I wanted to start at my goal size! He said that was no problem and that he had the jewelry. The jewelry was a pyrex plug with a flat backing. I went to his shop, We spoke about it even more. He had me sign some papers and I was on my way. I sat in the waiting room while he was getting prepaired. He would be having another piercer who worked there hold the lip while he scalpeled it. The time had come and I was ready. He took me to the back and we spoke about a few things. He said the reason we are scalpeling it, is because dermal punching is a bad ideal, removing muscle is dangerous and that we are scalpeling horizontally (sideways) instead of vertically because it is safer t hat way, so you cut along with the muscle instead of vertically which can sever it!

Made sense and I was calm. They had everything set out, the scalpel of choice......a number 11. They gloved up twice and put on surgical mask. The one piercer assisting opened a package of gauze in which he would hold the outer corner edges of my lip so the other piercer could scalpel. The piercer had me rinse with tech 2000. I was finished. He then started marking my lip, it took 2 minutes because he wanted it to be perfect! Everything was laid out on a medical tray. He said he was ready. He opened the scalpel up and dried inside of my mouth. The assistant held the lip. And the piercer said......count to three and when you we get to three hold a deep breath then release. He started counting.........1...........2........... He then said "Take a deep breath." 3........I felt the scalpel go in and my face was set on fire! It felt like a very bad pinch in my lip and he said three and I felt it come out on the other side! The burning sensation eased and the very big pinch was in tense. So intense my eyes watered up. He then ran the taper through, followed with the jewelry and I was done. I paid, waited there for about 30 minutes to make sure I was okay, then left.

Over the next week it swelled badly, before hand what I didnt mention was the piercer said this would be a small plug in length and for me to keep the swelling down on it as much as possible. I did, but on the 5th day the swelling covered the backing and I ended up cutting through it just to release it and I took it out. At the end of this month, I am getting it pierced again. Im 19 now. Im getting it pierced at 6 gauge with 5/8 length. It should work for me. Lessson learned, always make sure you have the right size for the anatomy. I guess in a sense I dont blame the piercer, I blame myself more because I took that chance.
