During January, I was searching the Internet in search of a new hair dye. Quite by accident, I came across a picture of a girl with a Madonna piercing. I had never seen one before, but after researching it on the Internet for a week or two, I decided I must have this piercing! I had never had a facial piercing, and I was a little concerned about scarring. I had my tongue pierced and I was wondering how much more pain was involved with a Madonna piercing. I figured it couldn't be that bad, many people have their labret so I could handle a Madonna. Convincing my boyfriend was difficult. He thought I would have a standard labret stud and he felt the steel ball would be too large. He told me he didn't want to look at me and see a shiny metal "bug" on my face. I wanted smaller jewelry, preferably with gemstones. So, I found some tiny studs, and showed him countless pictures on the Internet, and he and I went to my piercer.
At A Glance Author misscelestia Contact misscelestia@bme.anon When Three months ago Artist Dorian Studio Steel Addictions Location Toledo,Ohio I get all my piercings at Steel Addictions in Toledo, Ohio. I have been pierced by each of the piercers there, but Dorian is my favorite. He had to do my new piercing! He is very professional, and the shop is very clean. I have had 5 piercings done in this shop, and I am very happy with each one. I also know most of the staff, so I am very comfortable there.
We didn't make an appointment, but Dorian was working that day. I signed all my paperwork, paid the $45 and listened to my after care instructions. When they called me in, I made my boyfriend wait for me outside. Dorian and I chatted for awhile, he was very excited that I was getting this piercing. He told me he thought it would look good on me. He explained some of the things I should expect from the piercing. He told me it would look red for awhile, even if was healing. He told me it would swell a bit, and he told me not to change my jewelry for two months.
He set up his tray, put on his gloves and we discussed positioning. He got out his permanent maker, made a small dot on my face, and told me to check it out. I thought it was fine. He had me lay down on the table - he said that it would be easier for me to lay down, so I wouldn't get the urge to pull away during the piercing. I was actually happy to lie down, because I was getting a little nervous.
I felt the clamps on my lip, and he lifted my lip up. This was the reason I wanted to be alone - I didn't want anyone to see me like that! He had me inhale, then he counted to three. On the count of three, he pushed the needle through. It went through very easily, and it almost felt squishy. It wasn't exactly pain, but it didn't feel good! I winced a bit. Then he slid the jewelry in - a 14 gauge labret stud 5/16" - and that was the most uncomfortable part. The jewelry felt bigger then the needle. I felt the hole expand a bit when he put it in. After the stud was on, I sat up and I could feel my face swelling and throbbing a little bit, and it was warm. I thanked Dorian and my boyfriend drove us home.
I didn't eat anything that night, but I drank plenty of cold Kool-Aid (probably not the best thing to drink).
The piercing was swollen for a couple days, but not noticeably so. It remained a little pink for about a month and a half, even though the piercing was healing well. I used Biotene mouthwash, which worked very well, and cleaned the piercing with sea salt. You must have great oral hygiene to have this piercing. The piercing acts up if your teeth aren't clean.
I wear a 14-gauge stud, 1/4" long with a tiny 2.3mm internal threaded gemstone. I love my piercing! I get compliments on it all the time, and I think I wear it well. I change the gemstone every couple of weeks, I have a few different colors, but I don't change the stud at all. It's the perfect length, and I don't really notice it. This is a very pretty piercing and not everyone can wear it well. You should really put some fake gems on and decide if you like it before going to get the real thing. It will leave a small scar when you take it out. I am so happy with mine, and I think if you can pull it off - go get done!
