Back in February, I decided to treat myself and so for a birthday present I went to my local tattoo parlor and made myself an appointment for a tattoo and piercing; The appointment was for May 17th, the soonest I could be fitted in so I paid my deposit and went home, somewhat disheartened by the long wait.

As the months passed I saved up my money so that I could afford my new modifications and over time my nerves grew as well. Finally May 17th arrived, this time I was going to prepare myself properly and eat before I got pierced to save any further embarrassment. (read about it in my eyebrow story here)

My appointment was for 2pm, and so at 1:15pm we (my brother and I) set off for our journey to the studio, we arrived at 1:40pm and sat around looking through the tattoo catalogues and admiring the flash on the walls.
Around 2pm Mike (the guy my appointment was with) came out and apologized explaining that he was behind and so there would be a delay and did I mind waiting; the way I saw it I'd waited 3 months so what would a few more minutes matter, so I smiled and settled down continuing to flick through the art work.

The minutes passed, as customers walked in and out of the studio admiring the art work and then at 3:30pm Mikes customer left and I was told there would just be a 10 minute wait whilst he cleaned up.
After hearing this, my nerves went in to over drive, I started to shake and became very anxious – I knew that soon I'd be sat in the chair getting my new modifications. Mike popped his head around the corner and invited me into the room, as my brother stayed seated in the front of the waiting room.

My tattoo only took 30 minutes, but that is another story which I'll write about soon, so on to my piercing.

We chatted for a few minutes and I decided that I would go for the standard labret piercing as it would be less cumbersome and the placement would in fact suit me better.

Whilst Mike cleaned up from my tattoo and set up for my piercing I relaxed back into the leather bed/chair and waited anxiously. We chatted about the piercing, discussing after care methods and weather I'd like a labret stud or ring; I opted for the stud as I thought it would look better. Being rather pathetic I asked how much the piercing was going to hurt and Mike smiled back at me and simply told me that I'd had my eyebrow pierced so what was I worrying about; this relaxed me so I shut up and allowed him to continue his preparation.

About 5 minutes later everything was set up for the piercing, all that was left to do was decide on the exact placement and get the piercing done. I'd chosen to have the stud placed in the small dip directly beneath the center of my lip, I didn't really care where the back of the stud came out and so I left that for Mike to decide.

I sat back in the chair and opened my mouth so that he could clean the area and clamp my lip, this didn't take too long and so after a minute or two of being clamped he told me to close my eyes and relax. I didn't feel any pain as the needle passed through my lip, all that I felt was the pressure of something passing through my skin; he fitted the labret stud and then fitted the ball to the front. I didn't find the piercing painful at all, for me the clamping of my lip was actually more painful, the clamp felt sharp on my lip and the pinching was un comfortable, but no where near as bad as I'd imagined it was going to be.

I stood up and looked in the mirror, happy with my two new modifications I paid my £80 (£50 for the tattoo and £30 for the piercing), added a tip and then walked back into the waiting room to be met by my brother.
His reaction was shock, he didn't expect me to have gone through with the piercing, in fact in the 2 weeks since my piercing many people have commented on how much it suits me and how they didn't expect me to get any more piercing's after my eyebrow 2 years before.

My tattoo is now fully healed and looks fantastic; I'm already planning what I want next. And as for my piercing, now the swelling has gone and I can play with the stud more, I would have to say that the labret is the most beautiful piercing I've seen and I really love it, it only hurts as much as you believe it will.
I now love the thought of getting more body modifications and can't wait to get something else done.
