A couple of days ago I dropped out of school, and after wanting a labret for over a year, I realised that now without private school rules I could get one! So, the same day I dropped out and after painting my nails the darkest color I own and wearing my hair down (hehe, oh rebellious me!), I decided that it was labret piercing time!

So I got my mum to drive me into town to my favorite piercing shop, Punktured, and ran in and asked if they still had time to do a labret and woohoo they did!
So while my piercer Amy got everything ready I talked with the guy at the front of the store who went through a form, which basically just asked for my permission to pierce me and then different details, and about what medication I might be on. So, once that was all signed, I went upstairs to Amy.
Now, this room is about as clean as they come. And during the procedure I saw Amy change her gloves at least once, I wasn't paying all that much attention, but I liked the cleanliness she showed. Also I had been there a few other times, and they have been checked out by the health department and were well commended for there store, so I was very confident.
So Amy and I had a bit of a chat and we discussed my ex who I had been with to Punktured before and we had a few laughs (hehe), and I got quietly more and more nervous. I wasn't worried about the pain, in fact I was a hundred percent confident that I would barely feel a thing, seeing as I nearly missed my nipple being pierced, didn't feel a thing, but that's another story.
Anyway, Amy cleaned the spot to be pierced with some I think it's called betadine? It's that weird smelling brown stuff. And then she used some wipe things. It took her three attempts to make the perfect marking for the placement, then I had a look in the mirror, yup, it all seemed good to me!
The she clamped my lip, it wasn't painful, but it was a bit weird having her pull my lip around, lips aren't all that attractive from the inside y'know. I had chosen a simple 14g surgical steel labret bar, with a small ball, meaning I was busily eyeing the 14g needle that was about to attack me, when I realised it was time.
She lined everything up perfectly, and then pushed it through. Oh my lord, it hurt, I'm sorry but I just wasn't ready for it to hurt, it's never hurt before! Unlike the other times I've been pierced when I have just felt the pressure of the needle, this time I felt the sharpness of it. It wasn't a bad pain, I could easily take it, but it was there if anyone reading this is worried.
Amy made a comment that I have a tough lip before slipping the jewelry through and threading on the ball. Well, all done! I bled a little bit, so she cleaned that up with a cotton bud, and then set me free to gaze in awe in the mirror.
Well, it all went well and I loved it. That night I went home and it didn't hurt all that much, but it did feel weird, I was constantly reminded by the back of the bar that it was there. However, in bed once I had spent 3 hours on the phone (possibly not the best idea), I was in quite a lot of discomfort, my lip was throbbing, and yeah, it did really hurt. But the next morning, although I could see it had bled a bit in the night and that it was also swollen, it didn't hurt. Although it did take forever to eat a bowl of Cornflakes, trust me, I was absolutely terrified that I would catch the back of it on my teeth! Eep!!
It has been just two days since I had my labret done. I am loving it, I had wanted it for ages and ages, and I am so glad that I love it as much as I do. I have been cleaning it with watered down Listerine, but I plan to get something more appropriate. I water it down because it has a bit to much alcohol in it, and when I got my tongue pierced I used straight Listerine and my tongue went brown. I can eat basically normal, I went back to normalcy much faster than with my tongue, and I can talk normally, actually it only affected my speech for about 2 hours or so after. I think that was mostly from fear...once again, the back of the post is threatening me that it will catch and then ill cry, hehe.
So, hopefully my beautiful labret will heal nicely, and in 4 weeks or so I will be able to go back and have a shorter bar put in, as the one I have now the post is a bit long to accommodate for swelling.
I love my labret, I'm so glad I got it. To anyone who is hoping to get one, go for it, I love mine. Also, if anyone I wanting to get pierced in Adelaide whether it is a labret or something else, I can highly recommend Punktured, they are very clean and very friendly and they certainly know what they are doing.
