Let me start by saying my name is Courtney and I have 12 piercings now, and a few retired piercings. I've never had any problems with my piercings...this is because I get pierced by professionals that I trust and that I know how to take care of my piercings. Let me also say that I'm anemic, but I've never really bled at all when I've been pierced, until this piercing. I knew it would happen sooner or later. I usually bleed a lot on tattoos. My tattoo artist will constantly be wiping blood off of the tattoo and it will bleed all night the night after I get it. People with anemia should take iron vitamins before any piercing or tattoo.

I decided the other day that I wanted to get my lip pierced. I wanted it to look different so I decided to get it pierced two different times with two rings, both of them next to each other in the right corner of my mouth to balance off with the nostril ring I have in my left nostril. I decided that I would get these two lip piercings at same time.

I went up to Ace in the Hole and told Chad what I wanted. He was excited about piercing me twice in one session. He got everything all ready and invited me and my friend Andrea into the room.

I didn't expect the lip piercing to hurt at all considering the more painful piercings I've had, i.e. septum, nipples. Well, it didn't hurt, but I was definitely shocked.

As he slid the hollowed out needle through my lip, a steady stream of blood shot from my mouth and dribbled all over my shirt. I saw my piercist's eyes get wide as the sight of all the blood made me light-headed. Then it REALLY started bleeding. He pulled the needle out and reached for a few wads of paper towels. Wad after wad, he kept handing paper towels to me as I filled them up with blood. Soon I had my whole head in a trash bag with blood gushing from my face. My friend Andrea had to sit down, the blood was making her woozy.

Chad asked if I was okay and I looked up at him and gave him an evil bloody grin. I looked like I had just torn someone open with my teeth. Either that, or I looked like I was perioding out of my face. I really can't emphasize enough about how much I was bleeding. I have never seen that much blood in my life.

As soon as the blood had slowed, he asked if I wanted to continue. I almost wanted to just call it a day and let the hole close up. He told me that I would be kicking myself later if I didn't finish it. After some thought, I agreed to go through with the double piercing and he reinserted the needle and then slipped the ring through. Then he repeated the procedure in the spot right next to the other one and slipped on a ring. The second one didn't bleed...I'm sure I had pretty much oozed all the blood in my face out already.

On the way home I got a slurpee to cool down my lip that was swelling quite rapidly. It didn't hurt, it was numb. I washed it when I got home and rotated the rings a little bit.

The next morning I woke up and looked in the mirror and saw what I had expected, a good portion of the inside of my bottom lip was black and bruised. It was also very swollen. I put ice on it and moved one of the rings over to the side to allow some better circulation in my lip. There was a lot of swelling in between my the two rings. I simply moved both of the rings over to the side of the huge lump that was growing in between the rings.

The next day, the bruising had gone from black to a deep purple. My lip was very swollen, but as the day went by, the swelling went down. When you sleep, you have a lot of crazy blood circulation. I remembered the times I got my tongue pierced and I couldn't even close my mouth because of the swelling when I woke up in the mornings.

As the days went by, the swelling stopped and the bruising went away. It still gets a little crusty from time to time, and I have a horrible habit of accidentally hitting myself in the face, so that gets a little interesting. My whole lip will become soaked with plasma. The piercing was worth it, I'm very pleased with the final results. I'm still not healed yet, and I'm getting sick of getting shards of hard crusty plasma stuck in the inside of my lip piercing when I try to rotate the rings. It can be painful some times.
