It was Saturday, February 17, 2001. I had been planning this for a week but I have wanted my lip pierced for over a year. I didn't get it before because at my trampoline club, Skyriders, they wouldn't allow it.(Some kind of Safety Hazard) Finally the decided that my other piercings (tongue, various ear piercings, nose, belly) were also not acceptable so they kicked me out. So even though I am still upset, I wont take out my piercings for them. So I decided it was time for my lip to be pierced.

All week I was so excited! I even wore I fake one around my room one night to see how it felt, and looked. I was so convinced that this was going to be great. On the big day I was really excited. But for some reason I was afraid that something was going to happen to prevent me from getting it done, but sure enough, nothing happened!!!

I got to the studio, Abstract tattoos and body piercings and waited for my piercer, Gregory to finish sterilizing everything in the autoclave. When he was done, I sat in the chair as he cleaned the area just below my lip and made a mark. I looked in the mirror and thought it was good. He measured my lip to see how big the ring should be and decided he should give me an extra big ring so it had room to swell. Then it started. He clamped my lip and got ready. The clamp didn't bother me which was good because I remember when I got my tongue pierced the clamp was the worst part! He put the needle in part way, from outside to inside. I love that feeling. The first half of the needle going in was good. Then did the rest which kind of sucked. Next he put the ring in. I always hate this part, when he puts the ring in and the bead on because it's really uncomfortable. Then, it was done!! I looked in the mirror and loved what I saw, my friends thought it was cool too. But I had that icky feeling, that feeling that I knew something foreign was in my lip and I wanted it out! I had the same thing when I did my tongue but I quickly got over it.

We went through after care and I felt good about everything. Then Gregory pointed out to me and my friends that if we watched closely, you could see my lip swelling already!!!! The ring is way too big for my lip but since my lip is swelled so much, you would think it's the perfect size!!!

So later that day when I went home, my parents got a big surprise. Well actually I don't know how much of a surprise it REALLY was, I mean they should have expected it. I even told my mom that I was getting it last year. I guess she didn't take me seriously!!! My parents don't like it at all but oh well!!! They don't REALLY care, other wise they wouldn't just yell at me for 2 minutes and forget about it.

The actual piercing didn't really hurt, my lip was quivering the whole time though!! Cleaning it isnt even too bad either, it's mostly just the swelling that sucks. Also my lips get really dry so I have to keep applying lip balm which doesn't really help but putting it on makes me feel better. I would definitely recommend going to Abstract in Toronto though. Many people tell me New Tribe is better, but I have been there and I just don't really like it! I don't like huge corporations like that. I got my nose pierced there and I feel better knowing that I can go back to Abstract and get some good advice from my piercer. At New Tribe when I went back for advice they didn't even want to give me their time, it was like "we got your money now go away". Big corporations like that seem like they only care about their image and their money.

I got my lip pierced in the middle. I think it looks silly on the side. The only problem is eating and stuff.... It's a little difficult seeing as how my bottom lip is HUGE!! I even sound funny when I talk. Oh well in the end I know it will be all worth it. Even if I have to clean it 4 times a day, it is still worth it.I think I do recommend cleaning it that much anyways. Especially after eating. I be sure to watch out for spontaneous drooling. It's been known to happen during conversations, math tests....ect.... and I've only had this for 2 days!!! I'm sure after the swelling goes down, so will the drooling.

It's 2 days later and I've been sucking on ice and drinking cold water all day. The pain isn't bad at all but I hope the swelling goes down soon! All I can think of is... I wonder how kissing will be???
